Abstract

A fluid infusion device is provided. The fluid infusion device can include a fluid reservoir having a barrel portion and a housing defining a receiving portion for removably receiving the fluid reservoir within the housing. The housing can have a first side including a first engagement system that cooperates with the barrel portion to bias the fluid reservoir relative to the housing in a direction substantially opposite a direction of fluid flow out of the fluid reservoir.

Claims

1. A fluid infusion device, comprising:

a fluid reservoir having a barrel portion; and

a housing defining a receiving portion for removably receiving the fluid reservoir within the housing, the housing having a first side including a first engagement system that cooperates with the barrel portion to bias the fluid reservoir relative to the housing in a direction substantially opposite a direction of fluid flow out of the fluid reservoir.

2. The device of claim 1, wherein the housing further comprises a first housing component and a second housing component, and the first engagement system is coupled to the first housing component.

3. The device of claim 1, wherein the first engagement system further comprises a member that is movable by the barrel portion of the fluid reservoir between a first position and a second position, and in the second position, the member biases the fluid reservoir relative to the housing.

4. The device of claim 3, wherein the barrel portion further comprises a first alignment feature, and contact between the first alignment feature and the member moves the member from the first position to the second position.

5. The device of claim 4, wherein the barrel portion further comprises a second alignment feature, and contact between the second alignment feature and the member biases the fluid reservoir relative to the housing.

6. The device of claim 2, wherein the second housing component is received within the first housing component, and the second housing component includes a second engagement system that cooperates with the fluid reservoir to removably couple the fluid reservoir to the second housing component.

7. The device of claim 6, wherein the fluid reservoir further comprises a second portion coupled to the barrel portion, and the second engagement system includes a snap housing that is movable relative to the second housing portion by the barrel portion.

8. The device of claim 6, wherein the first engagement system biases the barrel portion of the fluid reservoir into contact with the second housing component.

9. A fluid infusion device, comprising:

a fluid reservoir having a first portion and a second portion; and

a housing defining a receiving portion for removably receiving the fluid reservoir within the housing, the housing having a first side adjacent to a second side, the first side including a first engagement system that cooperates with the first portion and the second side including a second engagement system that cooperates with the second portion, the first engagement system including a wedge that biases the fluid reservoir relative to the housing in a direction substantially opposite a direction of fluid flow out of the fluid reservoir.

10. The device of claim 9, wherein the first engagement system further comprises:

a retention member fixedly coupled to the housing; and

a biasing member coupled about the retention member and slidable relative the retention member,

wherein the wedge is movable along the retention member against a force of the biasing member by the first portion of the fluid reservoir.

11. The device of claim 10, wherein the first portion of the fluid reservoir further comprises a first alignment feature that contacts the wedge to move the wedge against the force of the biasing member.

12. The device of claim 11, wherein the wedge includes a first contact portion spaced part from a second contact portion along a first side, and the first alignment feature contacts the first contact portion.

13. The device of claim 12, wherein the first portion of the fluid reservoir further comprises a second alignment feature, and the second alignment feature contacts the second contact portion of the wedge to bias the fluid reservoir relative to the housing.

14. The device of claim 9, further comprising a base plate removably couplable to the housing.

15. A fluid infusion device, comprising:

a fluid reservoir having a first portion, a second portion and a reservoir defined between the first portion and the second portion for receipt of insulin, the first portion having a first alignment feature;

a first housing component including a first engagement system having a member movable by the first alignment feature between a first position and a second position; and

a second housing component coupled to the first housing component and including at least partially a second engagement system that cooperates with the second portion of the fluid reservoir,

wherein in the second position, the member biases the fluid reservoir into contact with the second housing component.

16. The device of claim 15, wherein the member biases the fluid reservoir in a direction opposite of a fluid flow out of the fluid reservoir.

17. The device of claim 15, wherein the first portion of the fluid reservoir is couplable to the first housing component and the second portion of the fluid reservoir is couplable to the second housing component.

18. The device of claim 15, wherein the first portion of the fluid reservoir further comprises a second alignment feature, and the second alignment feature contacts a portion of the member to bias the fluid reservoir into contact with the second housing component.

19. The device of claim 18, wherein the member includes a first contact portion near a second contact portion on a first side of the member, and the first alignment feature contacts the first contact portion and the second alignment feature contacts the second contact portion.

20. The device of claim 15, wherein the second engagement system further comprises:

a snap housing that is movable relative to the second housing component between a first position and a second position; and

a biasing member that biases the snap housing in the first position,

wherein an insertion of the second portion of the fluid reservoir into the second housing component moves the snap housing from the first position to the second position.
