Abstract

An interactive game system that stage lighting style cues as part of the game, where the stage lighting cues cause external stage lighting equipment to create effects that are based on outputs from the game. Steerable lights can be steered to the player and sounds can be created that are directed to the player. A simulation system can also simulate the actions that occur.

Claims

1. An interactive game system, comprising:

a computer that receives information about player actions in a game and produces outputs including stage lighting style cues as part of the game,

where the stage lighting cues are in a form to cause external stage lighting equipment to create lighting effects that are based on said player actions that occur in the game, where said lighting effects change an illumination of a room.

2. The system as in claim 1, wherein said stage lighting cues are in a form to control a pointing position of a pan and tilt controllable light.

3. The system as in claim 2, wherein said computer also detects positions of multiple different players in the room who are playing the game, and said outputs are based on said positions.

4. The system as in claim 3, wherein said outputs control the pan and tilt controllable light to point a light beam at one specific player in the room, based on actions in the game of said one specific player.

5. The system as in claim 4, wherein said computer detects that the one specific player has achieved a specified achievement in the game, and said computer causes the controllable light to point at the one specific player based on the one specific player having achieved the specified achievement.

6. The system as in claim 3, wherein the positions of the players are detected using hardware in an area in which the game is played.

7. The system as in claim 3, wherein said players use wireless controllers to interact with the game, and the positions of the players are detected by tracking the wireless controllers.

8. The system as in claim 1, wherein said players use wireless controllers to interact with the game and at least some of the information about the player actions in the game is received from said wireless controllers.

9. The system as in claim 8, wherein the computer maintains a roster of multiple different authorized controllers, and determines which of said authorized controllers are present.

10. The system as in claim 8, wherein the computer interacts with a player'"'"'s own controller which has been registered with the computer.

11. The system as in claim 8, wherein the stage lighting cues produce a lighting effect just directed at one specific player, and said computer also produces an output that produces a similar lighting effect on the user'"'"'s controller.

12. The system as in claim 8, further comprising producing an audio output directed at only a portion of a room in which the specific player is located, and said computer also produces an output that produces a similar audio effect on the user'"'"'s controller.

13. The system as in claim 1, wherein said cues are sent to different external equipment at different locations.

14. The system as in claim 13, further comprising a processor that operates to detect a location of a first user who is playing the game, and creating an action responsive to said first user who is playing the game that is not intended for other users other than said first user who is playing the game, and wherein said cues are sent to external equipment at a location of said first user.

15. A combination of equipment, having structure that interacts with a game that is being played by multiple different users in an area of the equipment, comprising:

a visual output production device, producing visual outputs in said area, said visual outputs being part of the game being played by multiple different users in the area;

an audio output device producing audio outputs in said area, as part of the game being played by the multiple different users;

a computer, that detects multiple different controllers of the multiple different users, and maintains a list of authorized controllers, and allows only those users with authorized controllers to interact with the game, and prevents users that do not have authorized controllers from interacting with the game,

wherein the computer enables a controller to become an authorized controller.

16. The combination as in claim 15, wherein said controllers are portable telephones.

17. The combination as in claim 15, wherein the visual output production device and the audio output device produce effects that interact with the game, wherein the area has props at different locations in the room that interact with the game.

18. A system comprising a computer that runs a game which interacts with special parts in a special area, and tracks locations of multiple players of the game in the area and provides outputs which are specially selected for a first player based on actions of the first player in the area, by tracking the first player'"'"'s location in the area and presenting the output in the area at a location of the first player and not at other locations in the area.

The system as in claim 18, wherein the output is an output of a light, where the light is steerable in pan and tilt directions to point at a location of the first player, and is automatically directed to the first player responsive to an action that occurs in the game by the first player, based on tracking the first player'"'"'s action in the game and also tracking the first player'"'"'s location in the area.

20. The game as in claim 19, wherein the area also includes controllable sound equipment, and a sound is created at a location of the first player in the area and not at other locations of the area.

21. The game as in claim 20, wherein the first player interacts with the game using a terminal, and the terminal creates sound and light that is synchronized with the sound and light output to the player.
