Abstract

A system and method for managing a plurality content items employs an ingest station which may digitize the content items, generate metadata corresponding to each of the content items, and store the metadata and the content items in a storage medium or mediums. The content items may be audio content, video content, or audio/video content. The system and method may provide an association between the metadata and a corresponding content item to facilitate retrieval of the content item. The content items may be retrieved, at least in part, by searching the metadata and employing the association between the metadata and a corresponding content item to locate the desired content item.

Claims

1. A method for managing a plurality of content items comprising:

generating metadata corresponding to each of the plurality of content items coincident with an initial production of each of the plurality of content items;

storing the plurality of content items;

storing the metadata corresponding to each of the plurality of content items;

associating the metadata with corresponding content items; and

retrieving stored content items based at least in part on the metadata associated with the content items.

2. A method for managing a plurality of content items according to claim 1, wherein at least part of the initial production of each of the plurality of content items is produced from a non-recorded source.

3. The method for managing a plurality of content items according to claim 1,

wherein the plurality of content items includes audio content items;

wherein the audio content items comprise multiple versions of at least one of the audio content items; and

wherein at least two of the multiple versions were produced from a non-recorded source at different times.

4. The method for managing a plurality of content items according to claim 1,

wherein the plurality of content items includes audio content items;

and

wherein storing the plurality of content items comprises automatically dividing an audio item into at least two audio content items and storing the at least two audio content items.

The method for managing a plurality of content items according to claim 4, wherein automatically dividing the audio item into the at least two audio content items comprises using voice recognition software to detect at least one moment in time in the audio item in which a particular voice appears in the audio item.

6. The method for managing a plurality of content items according to claim 1, further comprising automatically generating metadata corresponding to at least one of the plurality of content items after the at least one of the plurality of content items is produced.

7. The method for managing a plurality of content items according to claim 6,

wherein the plurality of content items comprises audio content items;

and

wherein automatically generating metadata comprises using voice recognition software to identify a non-recorded source of at least one voice that appears in a particular audio content item.

8. A system for managing a plurality of content items comprising:

at least one ingest station for inputting a plurality of content items and metadata corresponding to each of the plurality of content items generated coincidently with an initial production of each of the plurality of content items;

a first storing medium for storing the plurality of content items;

a second storing medium for storing the metadata; and

a device for retrieving one of the plurality of content items based at least in part on the metadata.

9. The system for managing a plurality of content items according to claim 8, wherein at least part of the initial production of each of the plurality of content items was produced from a non-recorded source.

10. The system for managing a plurality of content items according to claim 8,

wherein the plurality of content items includes audio content items;

wherein the audio content items comprise multiple versions of at least one of the audio content items; and

wherein at least two of the multiple versions were produced from a non-recorded source at different times.

11. The system for managing a plurality of content items according to claim 8,

wherein the plurality of content items includes audio content items;

and

wherein the at least one ingest station comprises a device for automatically dividing an audio item into at least two audio content items.

The system for managing a plurality of content items according to claim 11, wherein the device for automatically dividing the audio item into the at least two audio content items uses voice recognition software to detect at least one moment in time in the audio item in which a particular voice appears in the audio item.

13. The system for managing a plurality of content items according to claim 8, wherein the at least one ingest station comprises a device for automatically generating metadata corresponding to at least one of the plurality of content items after the at least one of the plurality of content items is produced.

14. The system for managing a plurality of content items according to claim 13,

wherein the plurality of content items comprises audio content items;

and

wherein the device for automatically generating metadata uses voice recognition software to identify a non-recorded source of at least one voice that appears in a particular audio content item.
