Abstract

A system and method for maintaining a web site is disclosed that includes browsing to a web page to be edited, automatically downloading a source file for the web page including related files associated with display of the web page, editing the source file, and automatically publishing the edited source file to a file transfer server associated with the web site including the related files associated with the display of the web page.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method, comprising:

accessing, by a computing device, a file of a web page from a server,

providing an editing interface comprising a rendered representation of the web page, the editing interface configured to receive an edit to be made directly to the file of the web page;

in response to input defining the edit to the file, editing the file directly using editing logic configuring the computing device to edit the page independently of the content of the file in response to input received via the editing interface; and

providing the file as edited for storage at the server.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein storing comprises providing the file as edited to a database accessible via the server.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein accessing the file of the web page comprises downloading the file into memory of the computing device, editing the file comprises changing the content of the file as represented in the memory, and providing comprises providing the file as changed to the server.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein downloading the file into memory comprises requesting the file from a file transfer protocol server.

2. The method of claim 2, wherein the computing device executes a page editing application defining the editing logic and which configures the computing device to perform said accessing, providing, editing, and providing.

6. A computer-implemented method, comprising:

receiving, by a computing device, data identifying a web page to be edited;

based on the input, accessing, by the computing device, a file associated with the web page from a database;

providing the file for editing by a second computing device;

receiving a modified file from the second computing device; and

updating the database with the file as modified.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the second computing device comprises a client device providing an editing interface with a rendered representation of the web page.

8. The method of claim 6, wherein the file comprises a page-dependent file referenced by a source file of the web page.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the page-dependent file defines dynamic content of the web page.

10. The method of claim 8, further comprising:

based on the input, accessing, by the computing device, the source file of the web page and providing the source file for editing by a second computing device, the source file provided in a form as the file is provided in response to a request to view the web page.

11. A system, comprising:

a first computing device configured to execute a web page editing process to (i) provide an editing interface comprising a rendered view of a web page to be edited based on obtaining a source file of the web page from a storage process, (ii) receive an edit to the source file via the interface, and (iii) return an edited version of the source file to the storage process; and

a second computing device configured to execute a storage process that acts in response to commands from the editing process to provide the source file of the web page and replace the source file with the edited version of the source file.

12. The system of claim 11, wherein the storage process maintains the source file in a database.

13. The system of claim 11, wherein the first computing device is configured by a web page editing application to execute the web page editing process.

14. The system of claim 11, wherein the storage process configures the second computing device to act as a file transfer protocol server.
