Abstract

A method for decompressing data includes receiving, by a network element, a first plurality of packets. Also, the method includes receiving, by the network element, a second plurality of packets. Additionally, the method includes decompressing the first plurality of packets by a first decompressor using a first compression scheme and decompressing the second plurality of packets by a second decompressor using a second compression scheme.

Claims

1. A method for decompressing data, the method comprising:

receiving, by a network element, a first plurality of packets;

receiving, by the network element, a second plurality of packets;

decompressing the first plurality of packets by a first decompressor using a first compression scheme; and

decompressing the second plurality of packets by a second decompressor using a second compression scheme.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein receiving the first plurality of packets comprises receiving the first plurality of packets through a first tunnel, and wherein receiving the second plurality of packets comprises receiving the second plurality of packets through a second tunnel.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the first tunnel comprises a Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol over IP tunnel.

4. The method of claim 2, wherein the first tunnel comprises a Multiprotocol Label Switching Architecture tunnel.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

determining that a first packet is in the first plurality of packets based on a first field of the first packet; and

determining that a second packet is in the second plurality of packets based on a second field of the second packet.

6. The method of claim 5, further comprising transmitting, by the network element, a first message, wherein the first message specifies a first state of the first decompressor, wherein the first state of the first decompressor indicates that the first decompressor received the first packet before the first decompressor received a third packet.

7. The method of claim 6, further comprising transmitting, by the network element a second message, wherein the second message specifies a second state of the first decompressor, wherein the second state of the first decompressor indicates that the first decompressor received a fourth packet when the first decompressor was in the first state.

8. The method of claim 5, wherein the first field of the first packet indicates that a first stream is compressed by the first compression scheme, and wherein the second field of the second packet indicates that a second stream is configured to be decompressed by the second compression scheme.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the first field of the first packet is a hash value of a third plurality of packets.

10. The method of claim 8, wherein the first field of the first packet is a state and a label.

11. The method of claim 5, wherein the first field of the first packet indicates that a third packet and a fourth packet are already in the first plurality of packets.

12. The method of claim 5, wherein the first field of the first packet is a hash value of a dictionary.

13. The method of claim 5, further comprising:

receiving, by the network element, a first message; and

generating, by the network element, a stream branch.

14. The method of claim 1, wherein the first plurality of packets comprises data of a first data type, and wherein the second plurality of packets comprises data of a second data type.

15. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

dividing the first plurality of packets into a data stream and an ID stream;

decompressing the ID stream; and

merging the data stream and the decompressed ID stream.

16. A method for compressing data, the method comprising:

determining that a first packet is in a first plurality of packets;

determining that a second packet is in a second plurality of packets;

compressing the first plurality of packets by a first compressor using a first compression scheme;

compressing a second plurality of plackets by a second compressor using a second compression scheme;

transmitting, by a network element, the first plurality of packets; and

transmitting, by the network element, the second plurality of packets.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein determining that the first packet is in the first plurality of packets comprises determining that the first packet comprises data of a first data type, and wherein determining that the second packet is in the second plurality of packets comprises determining that the second packet comprises data of a second data type.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein determining that the first packet is in the first plurality of packets comprises:

compressing the first packet by the first compressor using the first compression scheme to generate a first compressed packet,

compressing the first packet by the second compressor using the second compression scheme to generate a second compressed packet; and

determining that the first compressed packet is smaller than the second compressed packet.

19. The method of claim 16, wherein determining that the first packet is in the first plurality of packets comprises performing deep packet inspection.

20. A network element for decompressing data, the network element comprising:

a receiver configured to

receive a first plurality of packets,

route the first plurality of packets to a first decompressor,

receive a second plurality of packets, and

route the second plurality of packets to a second decompressor;

the first decompressor, configured to decompress the first plurality of packets using a first decompression scheme; and

the second decompressor, configured to decompress the second plurality of packets using a second decompression scheme.

21. The network element of claim 20, wherein the receiver is further configured to:

receive the first plurality of packets through a first tunnel; and

receive the second plurality of packets through a second tunnel.

22. The network element of claim 20, wherein the receiver is further configured to:

determine that a first packet is in the first plurality of packets based on a first field of the first packet; and

determine that a second packet is in the second plurality of packets based on a second field of the second packet.
