Abstract

An IV set is configured for coupling with a pump device. The IV set comprises a fluid lumen adapted for passage of an infusion fluid toward a patient. A frame is coupled to the fluid lumen and is adapted to be inserted into a seat of a pump device, wherein the frame provides a platen relative to the fluid lumen, wherein the frame is sized and shaped such that the frame can only be inserted into the pump device when aligned in a predetermined orientation relative to the pump device. An information device is adapted to store information associated with the IV set, wherein the information device is accessed in response to proper placement of the IV set in the pump device.

Claims

1. An IV set for coupling with a pump device, the IV set comprising:

a fluid lumen adapted for passage of an infusion fluid toward a patient;

a frame coupled to the fluid lumen, the frame adapted to be inserted into a seat of a pump device, wherein the frame provides a platen relative to the fluid lumen, wherein the frame is sized and shaped such that the frame can only be inserted into the pump device when aligned in a predetermined orientation relative to the pump device;

an information device adapted to store information associated with the IV set, wherein the information device is accessed in response to proper placement of the IV set in the pump device.

2. The IV set of claim 1, wherein the information device is a passive information device.

3. The IV set of claim 1, wherein the information device is an active information device.

4. The IV set of claim 1, wherein the information relates to a type of pump.

5. The IV set of claim 1, wherein the information relates to a type of fluid that the IV set can pump.

6. An IV set as in claim 1, further comprising a rotary valve assembly that can be actuated to regulate fluid flow through the fluid lumen.

7. An IV set as in claim 6, wherein the rotary valve includes a valve handle.

8. An IV set as in claim 7, wherein the valve handle rotates between an on and an off position, wherein, flow through the valve assembly is blocked when the valve handle is in the off position and flow through the valve assembly is permitted when the valve handle is in the on position.

9. An IV set as in claim 7, wherein the valve handle engages with a door of the pump device.

10. An IV set as in claim 9, wherein the valve handle is configured to be transitioned to the on or off position based on a locked or unlocked state of the door of the pump device.

11. An IV set as in claim 10, wherein locking of the door automatically transitions the valve handle to the on position.

12. An IV set as in claim 10, wherein unlocking of the door automatically transitions the valve handle to the off position.

13. An IV set as in claim 1, wherein the frame has a shape that complements a shape of the seat such that the frame can only be inserted into the seat when in the predetermined orientation.

14. An IV set as in claim 13, wherein the shape of the frame is asymmetric.

15. An IV set as in claim 1, wherein the frame is shaped so as to have an enlarged, circular end region and a body region that is of smaller transverse dimension than the circular end region relative to a longitudinal axis of the frame.

16. A method for accessing information associated with An IV set, comprising:

inserting at least a portion of the IV set into a modular pump device for pumping of a fluid; and

in response to the inserting, accessing information associated with the IV set from an information device coupled to the IV set.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein accessing information comprises confirming that the IV set is a correct IV set for an application of the pump device.

18. The method of claim 16, further comprising:

verifying that the IV set is not a correct IV set for the modular pump device; and

providing a warning that the IV set is not a correct IV set for the modular pump device.

19. The method of claim 16, further comprising writing information to the information device.

20. The method of claim 19, wherein the writing information to the information device further comprises writing information to the information device in response to real-time usage of the IV set.

21. The method of claim 20, wherein writing information to the information device further comprises writing information to the information device based on the infusate to be conveyed by the IV set.
