Abstract

In embodiments of the present invention, improved capabilities are described for a virtualization environment adapted for development and deployment of at least one software workload, the virtualization environment having a metamodel framework that allows the association of a policy to the software workload upon development of the workload that is applied upon deployment of the software workload.

Claims

1. A method of providing for consumption of low-level resources at least partially for construction of higher-level resources, comprising:

providing, by execution of microprocessor of code associated with anon-transitory memory, a catalog suitable for allowing at least first entities to publish the low-level resources to the catalog;

allowing for consumption of the low-level resources from the catalog by at least second entities, construction of mid-level resources from the low-level resources by the at least second entities, and republishing of the mid-level resources to the catalog; and

allowing for consumption of the mid-level resources from the catalog by at least third entities, construction of higher-level resources from the mid-level resources by the at least third entities; and

republishing of the higher-level resources to the catalog.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the catalog comprises a self service portal.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the low level resources comprise infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) offering.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the mid-level resources comprise platform-as-a-service (PaaS) offering.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the higher level resources comprise software-as-a-service (SaaS) offerings.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein at least two of the first, second and third entities are corporate departments.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein at least two of the first, second and third entities are corporate entities.

8. The method of claim 1, further comprising allowing for consumption of the higher level resources by at least fourth entities.

9. The method of claim 1, further comprising handling payment as between the third and second entities and as between the second and first entities.

10. A method of consuming low-level resources from a self service portal, comprising:

accessing low-level resources from the self service portal;

consuming the low level resources;

constructing from the low level resources, at least higher level resources; and

publishing the higher level resources to the self service portal for consumption by others.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein the low level resources comprise infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) offerings.

12. The method of claim 10, wherein the higher level resources comprise software-as-a-service (SaaS) offerings.

13. The method of claim 10, further comprising purchasing the low level resources.

14. The method of claim 13, further comprising selling the published higher level resources.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein the selling price includes at least a reimbursement of the purchase price.
