Abstract

Methods and systems for an improved navigation environment are provided. The navigation system can route users to preferred locations based on user profile data and past experience with the present driver and other drivers. The system provides more cost-effective and time-sensitive routing by incorporating other information about destinations. Further, the navigation system provides enhanced guidance in foreign or unfamiliar locations by incorporating experience from other drivers and other data.

Claims

1. A method for providing navigation information for a conveyance, comprising:

a vehicle control system, including a processor, providing a route for travel;

the vehicle control system, while traveling the route, determining statistics about the travel; and

the vehicle control system communicating the statistics.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the statistics are communicated to a device.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the device is associated with a passenger in the conveyance.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the statistics include information about the route.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the statistics include one or more of an estimated time of arrival and average speed.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the information about the route includes information about sites or destinations that are along the route.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the sites or destinations may be of interest to the passenger based on information in a user profile associated with the passenger.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the passenger searches for destinations along the route.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the statistics are updated periodically.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the statistics are provided to two or more occupants within the conveyance.

11. A conveyance comprising:

a processor operable to execute one or more modules, the modules comprising;

a route suggestion module operable to provide a route for travel;

a travel interaction module operable to, while traveling the route, determine statistics about the travel; and

a communication module operable to communicate the statistics.

12. The conveyance of claim 11, wherein the statistics are communicated to a device, and wherein the device is associated with a passenger in the conveyance.

13. The conveyance of claim 12, wherein the statistics include information about the route, wherein the statistics include one or more of an estimated time of arrival and average speed, and wherein the information about the route includes information about sites or destinations that are along the route.

14. The conveyance of claim 13, wherein the sites or destinations may be of interest to the passenger based on information in a user profile associated with the passenger, and wherein the passenger searches for destinations along the route.

15. The conveyance of claim 12, wherein the statistics are updated periodically.

16. A non-transitory computer readable medium stored on a storage medium and having instructions that when executed by a processor cause the processor to perform a method, the instructions comprising:

instructions to provide a route for travel;

instructions to, while traveling the route, determine statistics about the travel; and

instructions to communicate the statistics.

17. The computer readable medium of claim 16, wherein the statistics are communicated to a device, and wherein the device is associated with a passenger in the conveyance.

18. The computer readable medium of claim 17, wherein the statistics include information about the route, wherein the statistics include one or more of an estimated time of arrival and average speed, and wherein the information about the route includes information about sites or destinations that are along the route.

19. The computer readable medium of claim 18, wherein the sites or destinations may be of interest to the passenger based on information in a user profile associated with the passenger, and wherein the passenger searches for destinations along the route.

20. The computer readable medium of claim 17, wherein the statistics are updated periodically.
