Abstract

This invention defines management protocols for wireless power transfer to multiple devices in Multi-device Wireless Power Management System. Various functions of Multi-device Wireless Power Management System are justified from this invention. The WPT frames and messages which work between the management block of a charger and the management block or the coupler block of a device, or the coupler block of a charger are defined as well to execute various functions. Also the procedures for each functionality are described based on its frames and messages.

Claims

1. A method for transferring wireless power including a wireless power transmission apparatus, the method comprising:

transmitting a power transfer request packet to at least a wireless charging device during a request period;

receiving a power transfer response packet from the wireless charging device received the power transfer request packet during a response period;

transmitting a power transfer beacon request packet with information on a wireless power transfer schedule to the wireless charging device when receiving the power transfer response packet during the response period; and

transmitting a wireless power to the wireless charging device according to the wireless power transfer schedule during the response period.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the transmitting a power transfer beacon request packet with information on a wireless power transfer schedule to the wireless charging device when receiving the power transfer response packet during the response period comprises:

dividing the response period into several time slots by the number of the wireless charging device for the wireless power transfer; and

assigning the several time slots to the wireless charging device.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the transmitting a wireless power to the wireless charging device according to the wireless power transfer schedule during the response period comprises:

calculating distance to the wireless charging device; and

transmitting the wireless power at a power level appropriate for the distance.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

transmitting a power status beacon to the wireless charging device in a power status feedback interval during transmitting the wireless power; and

notifying an abnormal situation to the wireless charging device when sensing the abnormal situation in a power status feedback packet as a response for the power status beacon.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the power status feedback interval is included in the response period.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

transmitting a power transfer permission command to the wireless charging device;

receiving a power transfer request command from the wireless charging device received the power transfer permission command;

transmitting a power transfer execution command to the wireless charging device when receiving the power transfer request command; and

transmitting a minimal wireless power to the wireless charging device when receiving a power transfer execution command acknowledgement as a response for the power transfer execution command.

7. The method of claim 6, further comprising:

terminating a wireless power transfer to the wireless charging device when the wireless charging device receives power up to a threshold level.

8. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

transmitting a power transfer execution command and a wireless power regularly to the wireless charging device during a spontaneous period until receiving a power level request command acknowledgement for a power level request command.

9. A method for receiving wireless power including a wireless charging device, the method comprising:

entering a hibernation power level detection state as the wireless charging device is turned on;

detecting a power level of the wireless charging device in the hibernation power detection state; and

diverging into a power down hibernation state, a low power hibernation state and a stable hibernation state according to the detected power level condition.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the diverging into a power down hibernation state, a low power hibernation state and a stable hibernation state according to the detected power level condition comprises:

entering the power down hibernation state when the detected power level is lower than a first threshold level;

entering the low power hibernation state when the detected power level is higher than the first threshold level and lower than a second threshold level; and

entering the stable hibernation state when the detected power level is higher than the second threshold level.

11. The method of claim 10, further comprising:

entering a general activation state when wake-up 1 signal is detected while in the stable hibernation state.

12. The method of claim 10, further comprising:

entering a power status feedback state when wake-up 3 signal is detected while in the stable hibernation state.

13. The method of claim 10, further comprising:

entering a low power packet analysis state when wake-up 2 signal is detected while in the low power hibernation state.

14. The method of claim 13, further comprising:

entering a low power packet generation state when receiving a power transfer permission command while in the low power packet analysis state; and

generating a power transfer request command to request for power transfer.
