Abstract

Methods, apparatus, and systems are provided for measuring the supply of a consumable product/energy source, such as electrical power, to a facility over time and analyzing the measurements to determine the consumption or supply of the product by one or more loads and/or sources in the facility, and to determine induced and residual heat flow through the facility'"'"'s envelope. Various aspects compare the measured supply of the consumable product to a database of consumption signatures, which characterize access to the consumable product by particular users. Operating conditions and facility characteristics, such as temperatures, load factors, insulation factors, etc., may be further considered in determining a particular user'"'"'s access of the consumable product. To aid in the controlling of energy use, thermal resistance factors of the building are determined, which are based on the induced and residual heat flow through the facility.

Claims

1. A method comprising embedding one or more temperature transducers in a building material during manufacture of the building material.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the one or more temperature transducers are configured to communicate with a temperature measurement device.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the one or more temperature transducers include a wireless transmitter, and wherein the one or more temperature transducers are configured to wirelessly communicate with the at least one temperature measurement device via the wireless transmitter.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the one or more temperature transducers are configured to communicate with at least one other temperature transducer.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the one or more temperature transducers include a wireless transmitter, and wherein the one or more temperature transducers are configured to wirelessly communicate with the at least one other temperature transducer via the wireless transmitter.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the building material is configured to be installed in a building as a first layer of a wall of the building, and wherein the one or more temperature transducers are configured to wirelessly communicate with the at least one other temperature transducer provided in a second layer of the wall of building.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the first layer includes a first type of building material, and wherein the second layer includes a second type of building material different from the first type of building material.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the first layer includes insulation, and wherein the second layer includes at least one of:

concrete, sheathing, and drywall.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein building material includes insulation coupled to a paper backing.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the insulation is fiberglass insulation, and wherein the method further comprises rolling the fiberglass insulation.

11. The method of claim 9, wherein the one or more temperature transducers includes a string of wired sensors.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the embedding the one or more temperature transducers in the building material during manufacture of the building material includes taping the string of wired sensors to the paper backing.

13. An apparatus comprising:

a base including insulation configured for use in a building; and

one or more temperature transducers disposed in the base prior to use in the building.

14. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein the insulation is fiberglass insulation.

15. The apparatus of claim 13, further comprising:

one or more wireless transmitters integrally included with the one or more temperature transducers and configured to communicate with at least one of;

a temperature measurement device, and at least one other temperature transducer.

16. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein the one or more temperature transducers include at least one of:

an infrared sensor, a resistance temperature detector, and a thermistor.

17. The apparatus of claim 13, further comprising a paper backing coupled to the insulation.

18. The apparatus of claim 17, wherein the at least one temperature transducer includes a string of wired sensors.

19. The apparatus of claim 18, wherein the string of wired sensors are taped to the paper backing.

20. The apparatus of claim 19, wherein the insulation is rolled fiberglass insulation, and wherein the string of wired sensors are provided on an inside of the rolled fiberglass insulation.
