Abstract

A quick adjust ratcheting pocket hole jig is presented. The pocket hole jig has a base with a removable upright connected thereto. A guide assembly is slidably received within the upright. Removable and replaceable side supports are connected to the base by way of a dove tail joint. Removable and replaceable adjustable stops are connected to the base by way of key holes. A clamp assembly is connected to the base having a handle portion and a clamp follower. The clamp follower has a ratcheting mechanism and a compressible plunger assembly. The clamp follower can quickly be adjusted using a button on the clamp follower that disengages the ratcheting member such that it can be quickly adjusted. When the handle is operated, it draws the clamp follower towards the upright and guide assembly compressing the spring loaded plunger assembly thereby quickly and tightly and adjustably holding a workpiece therebetween.

Claims

1. A drilling jig comprising:

a base;

a handle assembly connected to the base;

a clamping assembly connected to the base;

an upright assembly connected to the base;

wherein the clamping assembly has a clamp follower; and

wherein the clamping assembly includes a ratcheting mechanism that facilitates clamping of various sized between the upright assembly and the clamping assembly.

2. The drilling jig of claim 1 wherein the clamping assembly has a ratchet plate with ratchet teeth that are selectively engaged by a tooth engaging member.

3. The drilling jig of claim 1 wherein the clamping assembly includes a button that disengages a tooth engaging member from ratchet teeth thereby allowing adjustment of the clamping assembly.

4. The drilling jig of claim 1 wherein the clamping assembly includes a tooth engaging member that is pre-loaded to engage ratchet teeth.

5. The drilling jig of claim 1 wherein the clamping assembly includes a ratchet plate having ratchet teeth therein, wherein the ratchet plate is formed of a non-metallic material whereas the ratchet teeth are made of a metallic material for increased durability and longevity.

6. The drilling jig of claim 1 wherein the ratcheting mechanism allows for movement of the clamp follower in a first direction while preventing movement in a second direction opposite the first direction.

7. A drilling jig comprising:

a base;

a handle assembly connected to the base;

a clamping assembly connected to the base;

an upright assembly connected to the base;

wherein the handle assembly is connected to the clamping assembly;

wherein the upright assembly is removably connected to the base; and

wherein when actuated a workpiece is clamped between the upright assembly and the clamping assembly.

8. The clamping assembly of claim 7, wherein the upright assembly fits within a recessed platform of the base.

9. The clamping assembly of claim 7, wherein the upright assembly has at least one foot which is aligned with a through hole in the base so as to facilitate connection of the upright to the base.

10. The clamping assembly of claim 7, further comprising a guide assembly adjustably received by the upright assembly.

11. A drilling jig comprising;

a base;

a handle assembly connected to the base,

a clamping assembly connected to the base;

an upright assembly connected to the base; and

at least one side support member connected to the base;

wherein the at least one side support member removably connects to the base by an interlocking joint.

12. The drilling jig of claim 11 wherein the interlocking joint is a dovetail joint.

13. The drilling jig of claim 11 wherein the interlocking joint is a dovetail joint having a tail-cut section positioned in one of the base and the at least one side support member, and a pin-cut suction positioned in the other of the base and the at least one side support member.

14. The drilling jig of claim 11 wherein the interlocking joint is a dovetail joint, the width of the dovetail joint angles inwardly as it extends from top to bottom.

15. A drilling jig comprising:

a base;

a handle assembly connected to the base;

a clamping assembly connected to the base;

at least one side support member connected to the base; and

wherein the at least one side support member has a storage compartment positioned therein.

16. The drilling jig of claim 15 further comprising wherein a door covers the storage compartment.

17. The drilling jig of claim 15 wherein the door is connected to the at least one storage compartment by a hinge.

18. A drilling jig comprising:

a base;

a handle assembly connected to the base,

an upright assembly connected to the base;

a clamping assembly connected to the base;

wherein the clamping assembly includes a plunger assembly having a clamp pad connected to a spring; and

wherein when actuated, the plunger assembly compresses thereby holding a workpiece between the plunger pad and the upright.

19. The drilling jig of claim 18 wherein the spring is positioned around a rod connected to the clamping pad.

20. The drilling jig of claim 18 wherein the spring is held within a housing of the clamping assembly.

21. The drilling jig of claim 18 wherein the clamp pad is held within a housing of the clamping assembly.

22. A drilling jig comprising:

a base;

an upright assembly connected to the base;

a clamping assembly connected to the base;

a dust collection assembly connected to the jig; and

wherein the dust collection assembly has a main housing with a snout connected to the main housing such that the snout swivels within the main housing.

23. The drilling jig of claim 22 wherein the snout connects to a cylindrical opening in the main housing.

24. The drilling jig of claim 22 wherein the snout has locking members which hold the snout onto the main housing.

25. The drilling jig of claim 22 wherein the main housing has attachment members which removeably connect dust collection assembly to the jig.

26. A drilling jig comprising:

a base;

an upright assembly connected to the base;

a guide assembly adjustably received by the upright assembly;

a spring loaded pin connected to the upright assembly; and

wherein the spring loaded pin engages preexisting openings in the guide assembly thereby holding the position of the guide assembly.

27. The drilling jig of claim 26 wherein the spring loaded pin includes a main body which is held by the upright.

28. The drilling jig of claim 26 wherein the spring loaded pin includes a nose section with a spring positioned around the nose section thereby providing a bias force towards the guide assembly.

29. The drilling jig of claim 26 wherein in a static position the spring loaded pin engages the preexisting openings in the guide assembly;

wherein the spring loaded pin is pulled away from the guide assembly to withdraw the spring loaded pin from the guide assembly to allow adjustment of the guide assembly.
