Abstract

Methods, systems, software, computer-readable media, and the like relate to providing and receiving relevant data from one or more entities. Data is received by a wireless user device directly from a wireless transmitter. The data may be provided to a stationary or moving user. A consumer in a vehicle, for instance, may have a smartphone, mobile phone, tablet PC, navigation system, or other similar mobile device, and can use such device to interact with a geographically proximate advertising module having a wireless transmitter. The wireless transmitter may also be stationary or moving, and can be incorporated into structures such as a vehicle, a billboard, a building, a road sign, a traffic light, or the like.

Claims

1. A method for providing relevant data to consumers in a mobile environment, comprising:

providing an advertising module including a wireless network interface and being dedicated for use in providing data to wireless devices; and

using the advertising module, sending data to a user communication device, the data being sent wirelessly over the wireless network interface for receipt when the user communication device is within wireless range of the advertising module.

2. The method recited in claim 1, further comprising receiving a request from the user communication device for the data.

3. The method recited in claim 1, further comprising broadcasting the data without a specific request from the user communication device.

4. The method recited in claim 1, wherein sending the data includes sending the data in a point-to-point communication from the advertising module directly to the user communication device.

5. The method recited in claim 1, wherein the user communication device includes one or more of:

a mobile phone;

a smart phone;

a tablet computing device;

a netbook;

a laptop;

a navigation system;

a camera;

or

a vehicle.

6. The method recited in claim 1, wherein the advertising module is located within or on one or more of:

a billboard;

a road sign;

a vehicle;

a shipping carton;

a building;

a performance venue; and

a living being.

7. The method recited in claim 1, further comprising:

tracking usage of the advertising module to send the data; and

charging third parties an advertising price based on tracked usage of the advertising module to send the data.

8. The method recited in claim 7, wherein charging third parties an advertising price includes using a subscription or transaction-based monetization module.

9. The method recited in claim 1, wherein the data sent by the advertising module is restricted according to one or more content or geographic filters specified by the user communication device.

10. A user communication device, comprising:

one or more processors;

a wireless communication interface;

computer-readable media in communication with the one or more processors, the computer-readable media storing an advertising application for, upon execution by the one or more processors;

receiving data from one or more external advertising modules directly through the wireless communication interface, the one or more external advertising modules being dedicated for use in providing data; and

outputting the received data to a user.

11. The user communication device recited in claim 10, wherein the data is received while the user communication device is moving.

12. The user communication device recited in claim 10, wherein the external advertising module is moving.

13. The user communication device recited in claim 10, outputting the received data includes:

displaying image, text, or video data on a display of the user communication device;

playing audio information through a speaker of the user communication device;

or

providing the data to an external output device.

14. The user communication device recited in claim 13, wherein the external output device is a vehicle.

15. The user communication device recited in claim 10, wherein the data includes one or more of:

contact information;

GPS coordinates;

promotions;

specials;

coupons; and

business cards.

16. The user communication device recited in claim 10, further comprising:

prior to outputting the received data, checking to ensure the received data satisfies one or more filters set in the advertising application.

17. A communication system for providing at least one of advertising and promotional information and messages relevant to a user, comprising:

one or more dedicated advertising modules within a mobile vehicle and configured for storing at least one of advertising and promotional information and messages for one or more entities, each dedicated advertising module including a first wireless network interface for transmitting the at least one of advertising and promotional information and messages wirelessly; and

a non-transitory computer-readable medium storing a downloadable dedicated advertising application, the dedicated advertising application being configured to use a second wireless network interface of one or more mobile electronic devices to communicate with the first wireless network interface and receive the at least one of advertising and promotional information and messages wirelessly.

18. The communication system recited in claim 17, wherein the downloadable dedicated advertising application is configured to perform one or more of:

pull the at least one of advertising and promotional information and messages wirelessly from a dedicated advertising module; and

receive the at least one of advertising and promotional information and messages pushed wirelessly from a dedicated advertising module.

The communication system recited in claim 17, wherein the advertising application is configured to obtain the at least one of advertising and promotional information and messages from the second wireless network interface only when in direct wireless range of the first wireless network interface.

20. The communication system recited in claim 17, wherein the plurality of dedicated advertising modules are located within or on one or more of:

an advertising vehicle;

a commercial vehicle;

a transport or delivery vehicle;

an emergency vehicle;

a train;

a boat;

a plane;

a shipping container;

a performance venue;

a bus;

a personal vehicle;

a tractor;

a taxi;

a drone;

a blimp;

a helicopter;

a ship; and

a living being.

21. The communication system recited in claim 17, further comprising a commercialization module for tracking usage of a dedicated advertising module.

22. The communication system recited in claim 17, wherein the first wireless network interface uses one or more short-range wireless communication protocols.

23. The communication system recited in claim 22, wherein the one or more short-range wireless communication protocols include:

Bluetooth;

Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE);

RFID;

DSRC;

RuBee;

WiFi;

Z-Wave;

or

Zigbee.

24. The communication system recited in claim 17, wherein the second wireless network interface uses a same communication protocol as the first wireless network interface.

25. The communication system recited in claim 17, wherein the non-transitory computer-readable medium and downloadable dedicated advertising application are accessible over a third network interface.

26. The communication system recited in claim 25, wherein the third network interface is different than one or both of the first and second wireless network interfaces.

27. The communication system recited in claim 25, wherein the third network interface is accessible to the one or more mobile electronic devices using at least one long-range wireless communication protocol.

28. The communication system recited in claim 27, wherein the at least one long-range wireless communication protocol includes one or more of:

GSM;

CDMA;

LTE;

or

HSPA+.

29. The communication system recited in claim 17, the one or more entities comprising a first entity at least one of owning and operating the mobile vehicle and a second, third party entity.

30. The communication system recited in claim 17, wherein the downloadable dedicated advertising application is free for download by users of the one or more mobile electronic devices.

31. A system, comprising:

one or more sensors positioned within or proximate to a performance venue and configured to capture data within the performance venue; and

one or more advertising modules positioned within or proximate to the performance venue and configured to;

generate data based on captured data; and

convey the generated data to at least user communication device.

32. A communication system for providing at least one of advertising and promotional information and messages to a user, comprising:

one or more dedicated modules within a medium and configured for storing information for a first entity at least one of owning and operating the medium and a second, third party entity, each dedicated module including a first wireless network interface for transmitting the information wirelessly; and

one or more mobile electronic devices configured to wirelessly receive the information from the one or more modules.

33. The communication system recited in claim 32, wherein the medium comprises on one or more of:

a billboard;

a road sign;

an advertising vehicle;

a commercial vehicle;

a transport or delivery vehicle;

an emergency vehicle;

a train;

a boat;

a plane;

a shipping container;

a performance venue;

a bus;

a personal vehicle;

a tractor;

a taxi;

a drone;

a blimp;

a helicopter;

a ship; and

a living being.

34. The communication system recited in claim 32, wherein one or more electronic devices include one or more of:

a mobile phone;

a smart phone;

a tablet computing device;

a netbook;

a laptop;

a navigation system;

a camera;

or

a vehicle.

35. The communication system recited in claim 32, wherein the one or more modules comprise one or more advertising modules, the information comprises at least one of advertising and promotional information and messages, and each of the first entity and the second, third party entity comprise a commercial entity.

36. A communication system for providing at least one of advertising and promotional information and messages, comprising:

one or more dedicated modules within a medium and configured to;

store the at least one of advertising and promotional information and messages for a plurality of entities;

wirelessly transmit the at least one of advertising and promotional information and messages; and

track information related to the transmission of the at least one of advertising and promotional information and messages; and

one or more mobile electronic devices configured to receive the at least one of advertising and promotional information and messages from the one or more modules.

The communication system recited in claim 36, wherein the one or more dedicated modules are configured to track at least one of a number of a pull requests made for at least one of advertising and promotional information and messages and a number of times the at least one of advertising and promotional information and messages is transmitted.

38. The communication system recited in claim 36, wherein the one or more dedicated modules are configured to determine a volume of consumer traffic proximate the medium.
