Abstract

A reverse 911 can be sent to a TV communicating with the Internet. The TV is automatically turned on if it is off, and a viewer can acknowledge the reverse 911 using a TV remote control.

Claims

1. A system, comprising:

at least one computer memory with instructions executable by at least one processor; and

at least one processor configured for accessing the instructions, the instructions when executed by the processor configuring the processor for;

receiving an emergency alert from the Internet;

energizing a display automatically in response to the alert if not already energized so as to display a message associated with the alert; and

presenting the alert on the display, the alert being received and/or generated based at least in part on at least one of age, sex, of a person associated with the system.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the instructions when executed by the processor configure the processor to cause the display to present a prompt to acknowledge the alert.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the alert is received based at least in part on age of a person associated with the system.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein the alert is received based at least in part on a sex of a person associated with the system.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein the alert is generated based on age of a person associated with the system.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein the alert is generated based on a sex of a person associated with the system.

7. The system of claim 1, wherein the message is location-specific.

8. A system, comprising:

at least one computer memory with instructions executable by at least one processor; and

at least one processor configured for accessing the instructions, the instructions when executed by the processor configuring the processor for;

receiving an emergency alert from the Internet;

presenting the alert on a display; and

responsive to the alert, energizing at least one lamp in a dwelling containing the display until an acknowledgement of the alert is received.

9. The system of claim 8, wherein the instructions when executed by the processor configure the processor to automatically energize the display automatically in response to the alert if not already energized so as to display a message associated with the alert.

10. The system of claim 8, wherein the alert is received and/or generated based at least in part on at least one of age, sex, of a person associated with the system.

11. The system of claim 8, wherein the alert is generated based on age of a person associated with the system.

12. The system of claim 8, wherein the alert is generated based on a sex of a person associated with the system.

13. The system of claim 8, wherein the instructions when executed by the processor configure the processor for:

disabling tuning and/or navigating away from a first content source on which the alert is received to a second content source until an acknowledgement of the alert is received; and

responsive to a determination of an acknowledgement being received, reenabling capability to tune and/or navigate away from the first content source to the second content source.

14. A system, comprising:

at least one computer memory bearing instructions executable by at least one processor; and

at least one processor configured for accessing the instructions, the instructions when executed by the processor configuring the processor for;

receiving an emergency alert from a computer network;

presenting on at least one display a prompt to acknowledge the alert;

disabling tuning and/or navigating away from a first content source on which the alert is received to a second content source until an acknowledgement of the alert is received; and

responsive to a determination of an acknowledgement being received, reenabling capability to tune and/or navigate away from the first content source to the second content source.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the instructions when executed by the processor configure the processor to automatically energize the display in response to the alert if not already energized so as to display a message associated with the alert.

16. The system of claim 14, wherein the system is associated with an Internet Protocol (IP) address and the alert is addressed to the IP address of the system.

17. The system of claim 14, wherein the display is a visual display.

18. The system of claim 14, wherein the display is an audio speaker, the volume of which is established in response to the alert.

19. The system of claim 14, wherein the alert includes a message that is demographic-specific.

20. The system of claim 14, wherein the alert includes a message that is location-specific.
