Abstract

A method of managing documents in an active repository that includes receiving one or more documents having metadata from a plurality of cache repositories; registering the metadata in a registry; storing the one or more documents in the active repository; and replicating the stored one or more documents and the registered metadata to a backup system.

Claims

1. A system of managing content having metadata, comprising:

a cache repository for storing content received from a source;

a registry for registering the content using the metadata;

a central repository for receiving and storing the content from the cache repository; and

a backup repository for storing a backup of the content received and stored in the central repository,

wherein the cache repository is located at an edge facility, the registry and the central repository are located at a primary system, and the backup repository is located at a secondary system, and wherein the edge facility, the primary system and the secondary system are connected to each other in a network.

2. The system of claim 1, further comprising a backup registry for replicating the metadata stored in the registry.

3. The system of claim 2, wherein the backup registry is located at the secondary system.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein the backup repository replicates the content from the central repository to the backup repository.

5. The system of claim 4, wherein the number of days for storing the content is configurable by a user.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein the cache repository deletes the stored content after a high water mark is reached.

7. The system of claim 1, wherein the edge facility, the primary system and the secondary system transfer the content and the metadata to each other through cross-enterprise document reliable interchange (XDR).

8. A method of managing documents in an active repository, comprising:

receiving one or more documents having metadata from a plurality of cache repositories;

registering the metadata in a registry;

storing the one or more documents in the active repository; and

replicating the stored one or more documents and the registered metadata to a backup system.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the receiving the one or more documents is performed through cross-enterprise document reliable interchange (XDR).

10. The method of claim 8, wherein the one or more documents are replicated to a backup repository in the backup system.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein the replicating the stored one or more documents to the backup system is a SQL replication between the active repository and the backup repository.

12. The method of claim 8, wherein the registered metadata are replicated to a backup registry in the backup system.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein the replicating the registered metadata to the backup system is a database replication between the registry and the passive registry.

14. The method of claim 8, further comprising replicating the stored one or more documents from a storage interface of the active repository to a storage interface of the backup repository.

15. A method of managing one or more documents in a passive repository, comprising:

receiving one or more documents from an active repository;

receiving metadata from an active registry, the metadata associated with each of the one or more documents received from the active repository;

storing the one or more documents to create a backup copy of the one or more documents; and

storing the metadata to create a backup copy of the metadata.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein the storing the one or more documents includes replicating the one or more documents from the active repository to the passive repository.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein the replicating is performed automatically when the active repository receives the one or more documents from a cache repository.

18. The method of claim 16, wherein the passive repository replicates back to the active repository.

19. The method of claim 15, wherein the storing the metadata includes replicating the metadata from the active registry to a passive registry.

20. The method of claim 15, wherein the passive repository is used by a plurality of cache repositories to retrieve the one or more documents when the active repository is in a downtime condition.
