Abstract

The present disclosure relates to a wireless power transmission apparatus, which enables bidirectional communication with electronic devices without the implementation of additional elements through the wireless power transmission apparatus modulating a wireless power signal in a frequency modulation scheme in order for a packet to be included, and optimizes transmission speed by selecting a signal having a voltage level indicated by data from among two or more signals having different frequencies as a carrier signal, and modulating the wireless power signal. To this end, the wireless power transmission apparatus according to an embodiment of the present invention includes: a power converting unit for forming a wireless power signal on the basis of a carrier signal; a modulating unit for modulating the wireless power signal in order for a packet to be included in the wireless power signal; and a controller for controlling the modulating unit to modulate the wireless power signal by adjusting a driving frequency of the carrier signal, and the power converting unit for the modulated wireless power signal to be transmitted to a wireless power reception apparatus, wherein the adjusting of the driving frequency can be performed by selecting a signal having a frequency corresponding to data included in the packet from among the two or more signals having different frequencies as the carrier signal.

Claims

1. A wireless power transmitter comprising:

a power conversion unit that is configured to form a wireless power signal based on a carrier signal;

a modulation unit that is configured to modulate the wireless power signal so as to include a packet in the wireless power signal; and

a controller that is configured to control the modulation unit to modulate the wireless power signal by adjusting an operating frequency of the carrier signal, and control the power conversion unit to transmit the modulated wireless power signal to a wireless power receiver,

wherein the adjustment of the operating frequency is carried out in a manner of selecting a signal from two or more signals having different frequencies as a carrier signal, the selected signal having a frequency corresponding to data included in the packet.

The wireless power transmitter of claim 1, wherein the modulation unit comprises a multiplexer (MUX) that is configured to select the signal having the frequency corresponding to the data included in the packet, from the two or more signals having the different frequencies, as the carrier signal.

3. The wireless power transmitter of claim 1, wherein the two or more signals having the different frequencies comprise a resonant frequency for resonance coupling with the wireless power receiver.

4. The wireless power transmitter of claim 1, wherein the two or more signals having the different frequencies further comprise a frequency belonging to a threshold range based on the resonant frequency.

5. The wireless power transmitter of claim 4, wherein the threshold range is decided based on energy transfer gain.

6. The wireless power transmitter of claim 1, wherein the wireless power signal is demodulated in the wireless power receiver based on energy transfer gain for the wireless power receiver.

7. The wireless power transmitter of claim 1, wherein the packet is a packet providing information related to the wireless power transmitter or a packet requesting for information related to the wireless power receiver.

8. A bidirectional communication method for a wireless power transmitter, comprising:

forming a wireless power signal based on a carrier signal;

adjusting an operating frequency of the carrier signal such that a packet is included in the wireless power signal;

modulating the wireless power signal based on the carrier signal with the adjusted operating frequency; and

transmitting the modulated wireless power signal to a wireless power receiver,

wherein the adjustment of the operating frequency is carried out in a manner of selecting a signal from two or more signals having different frequencies as a carrier signal, the selected signal having a frequency corresponding to data included in the packet.
