Abstract

A mobile electronic device having a flexible display device is disclosed. A request to retrieve information from a server over a wireless network is triggered based on flexing the flexible display device and other gestures.

Claims

1. A portable electronic device comprising:

a global positioning system that provides location information indicative of a location of the portable electronic device;

circuitry that retrieves information from a server over a wireless network in response to the location information provided by the global positioning system; and

a flexible display that displays an image based on the information retrieved from the server.

2. The portable electronic device defined in claim 1, wherein the image comprises an advertisement.

3. The portable electronic device defined in claim 2 further comprising:

at least one sensor that detects a bending of the flexible display, wherein an appearance of the advertisement is adjusted in response to the bending of the flexible display.

4. The portable electronic device defined in claim 2, wherein the circuitry determines an anticipated future location of the portable electronic device based on the location information and wherein the circuitry retrieves information from the server based on the anticipated future location.

The portable electronic device defined in claim 4, wherein the anticipated future location of the portable electronic device is associated with a first wireless communication signal strength, wherein the location of the portable electronic device is associated with a second wireless communication signal strength, and wherein the first wireless communication signal strength is weaker than the second wireless communication signal strength.

6. The portable electronic device defined in claim 5, wherein the information retrieved from the server comprises information associated with an advertisement scheduled to be displayed at the anticipated future location of the portable electronic device and wherein the flexible display displays the advertisement before the portable electronic device reaches the anticipated future location.

7. The portable electronic device defined in claim 1, wherein the flexible display is an organic light emitting diode flexible display.

8. The portable electronic device defined in claim 1, wherein the flexible display is responsive to multi-touch inputs.

9. The portable electronic device defined in claim 1, wherein the circuitry adjusts a quality level of multimedia content based on the location information and wherein the multimedia content comprises content selected from the group consisting of audio and video.

10. The portable electronic device defined in claim 1, wherein the location information comprises a current location of the portable electronic device.

11. A method fbr operating a portable electronic device having a flexible display, comprising:

with a global positioning system, providing location information indicative of a location of the portable electronic device;

with circuitry, retrieving information from a server over a wireless network in response to the location information, provided by the global positioning system; and

with the flexible display, displaying an image based on the information retrieved from the server.

12. The method defined in claim 11, wherein displaying an image based on the information retrieved from the server comprises displaying an advertisement based on the information retrieved from the server.

13. The method defined in claim 12 further comprising:

with at least one sensor in the portable electronic device, detecting a bending of the flexible display; and

with the display, adjusting an appearance of the advertisement in response to the bending of the flexible display.

14. The method defined in claim 12, further comprising:

with the circuitry, determining a current location of the portable electronic device based on the location information, wherein retrieving information from the server comprises retrieving information from the server based on the current location.

15. The method defined in claim 11, further comprising:

with the circuitry, determining an anticipated future location of the portable electronic device based on the location information, wherein retrieving information from the server comprises retrieving information from the server based on the anticipated future location.

16. The method defined in claim 15, wherein the anticipated future location of the portable electronic device is associated with a first wireless communication signal strength, wherein a current location of the portable electronic device is associated with a second wireless communication signal strength, and wherein the first wireless communication signal strength is weaker than the second wireless communication signal strength.

17. The method defined in claim 15, further comprising:

with the circuitry, receiving the information from the server, wherein the information comprises information associated with an advertisement scheduled to be displayed at the anticipated future location of the portable electronic device, and wherein displaying the image comprises displaying the advertisement before the portable electronic device reaches the anticipated future location.

18. The method defined in claim 11, wherein the flexible display comprises a flexible organic light emitting diode display.

19. The method defined in claim 11, further comprising:

with the circuitry, adjusting a quality level of multimedia content based on the location information provided by the global positioning system.

20. The method defined in claim 19 wherein the multimedia content comprises content selected from the group consisting of:

audio and video.
