Abstract

An embodiment of a method includes generating a description of an asset that includes at least one retreatment contract, and generating an offer to transfer, or a solicitation of an offer to acquire, the asset. The asset may also include one or more instruments other than the at least one retreatment contract. Such an embodiment may allow a party to a retreatment contract to diversify its risk, or to recoup at least a portion of the fee it paid under the contract. An example of a retreatment contract includes a party paying a fee (e.g., an insurance premium) for another party to take an action (e.g., pay money to the party) if a subject treated for a condition is retreated for the condition, for a complication arising from the treatment of the condition, or for another reason, within a specified time period.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

with a computing apparatus, automatically generating a description of an asset that includes a retreatment contract and at least one other instrument; and

with the computing apparatus, automatically generating an offer to sell the asset.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the asset includes a pooled asset.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the asset includes a bundled asset.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the asset includes a collateralized asset.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the asset includes an overcollaterized asset.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein the asset forms at least part of a pass-through security.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein the asset forms at least part of a special-purpose entity.

8. The method of claim 1 wherein the asset forms at least part of an entity that includes tranches.

25. An apparatus, comprising:

means for automatically generating a description of an asset that includes a retreatment contract and at least one other instrument; and

means for automatically generating an offer to sell the asset.

33. The apparatus of claim 25 wherein the retreatment contract includes at least one recital that a party is to pay a fee and that another party is to take an action if a subject is retreated for a condition within a time period.

a description module configured to generate automatically a description of an asset that includes a retreatment contract and at least one other instrument; and

an offer module configured to generate automatically an offer to sell the asset.

57. The method of claim 49 wherein the retreatment contract includes at least one recital that a party is to pay a fee and that another party is to take an action if a subject is retreated for a condition within a time period.

58. The apparatus of claim 49 wherein the at least one other instrument includes at least one other negotiable instrument.

59. The apparatus of claim 49 wherein the at least one other instrument includes at least one other contract.

60. The apparatus of claim 49 wherein the at least one other instrument includes at least one other retreatment contract.

61. The apparatus of claim 60 wherein:

the retreatment contract includes at least one recital that a party is to pay a fee and that another party is to take an action if a subject is retreated for a condition within a time period; and

the other retreatment contract includes at least one recital of a paying party that is different from the party recited in the retreatment contract.

62. The apparatus of claim 61 wherein:

the party includes a treatment provider; and

the paying party includes a different treatment provider.

63. The apparatus of claim 60 wherein:

the retreatment contract includes at least one recital that a party is to pay a fee and that another party is to take an action if a subject is retreated for a condition within a time period; and

the other retreatment contract includes at least one recital of a fee that is different from the fee recited in the retreatment contract.

64. The apparatus of claim 60 wherein:

the retreatment contract includes at least one recital that a party is to pay a fee and that another party is to take an action if a subject is retreated for a condition within a time period; and

the other retreatment contract includes at least one recital of an action-taking party that is different from the other party recited in the retreatment contract.

65. The apparatus of claim 64 wherein:

the other party includes a treatment provider; and

the action-taking party includes a different treatment provider.

66. The apparatus of claim 60 wherein:

the retreatment contract includes at least one recital that a party is to pay a fee and that another party is to take an action if a subject is retreated for a condition within a time period; and

the other retreatment contract includes at least one recital of an action that is different from the action recited in the retreatment contract.

67. The apparatus of claim 60 wherein:

the retreatment contract includes at least one recital that a party is to pay a fee and that another party is to take an action if a subject is retreated for a condition within a time period; and

the other retreatment contract includes at least one recital of a subject that is different from the subject recited in the retreatment contract.

68. The apparatus of claim 60 wherein:

the retreatment contract includes at least one recital that a party is to pay a fee and that another party is to take an action if a subject is retreated for a condition within a time period; and

the other retreatment contract includes at least one recital of a condition that is different from the condition recited in the retreatment contract.

69. The apparatus of claim 60 wherein:

the retreatment contract includes at least one recital that a party is to pay a fee and that another party is to take an action if a subject is retreated for a condition within a time period; and

the other retreatment contract includes at least one recital of a time period that is different from the time period recited in the retreatment contract.

70. The apparatus of claim 49, further comprising an acceptance module configured to accept an offer to acquire the asset.

71. The apparatus of claim 49, further comprising an acceptance module configured to accept a payment to acquire the asset.

72. The apparatus of claim 49, further comprising a distribution module configured to distribute the offer to sell the asset.

73. A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising:

stored instructions that, when executed by at least one computing apparatus, cause the at least one computing apparatus

to generate automatically a description of an asset that includes a retreatment contract and at least one other instrument; and

to generate automatically an offer to sell the asset.

94. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 73 wherein the stored instructions, when executed by at least one computing apparatus, cause the at least one computing apparatus to accept an offer to acquire the asset.

96. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 73 wherein the stored instructions, when executed by at least one computing apparatus, cause the at least one computing apparatus to distribute the offer to sell the asset.
