Abstract

Some embodiments of the present invention include a method for providing social information of members of one or more social networks includes receiving a request for a social handle of a person via a social handle application programming interface (API), the request including contact information about the person, performing a search for the social handle of the person using the contact information, normalizing the social handle if it is not already normalized to generate a normalized social handle, storing the normalized social handle as being associated with the contact information, and providing the normalized social handle in a response to the request.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method for providing social handles, the method comprising:

receiving, by a server computing system in an on-demand service environment, a request for normalized social handles, the request including contact information;

identifying, by the server computing system, one or more normalized social handles associated with the contact information, the one or more normalized social handles corresponding to publicly available social handles provided by one or more social networks; and

providing, by the server computing system, the one or more normalized social handles in a response to the request.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein identifying the one or more normalized social handles associated with the contact information comprises:

determining whether the contact information received with the request matches with contact information stored in a database associated with the server computing system; and

retrieving the one or more normalized social handles from the database based when the contact information received with the request matches the contact information stored in the database.

3. The method of claim 2, further comprising:

searching a network for the publicly available social handles associated with the contact information when the contact information received with the request does not match the contact information stored in the database;

normalizing the publicly available social handles to generate the one or more normalized social handles; and

storing the one or more normalized social handles in the database.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein normalizing the publicly available social handles comprises extracting a social handle identification (ID) from each of the publicly available social handles and including the social handle ID in a corresponding normalized social handle.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein a normalized social handle associated with a first social network is generated using a first format.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein a normalized social handle associated with a second social network is generated using a second format.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the one or more normalized social handles are provided in the response based on a confidence level order.

8. The method of claim 6, wherein the one or more normalized social handles are provided in the response based on social network grouping.

9. A system for providing normalized social handles, the system comprising:

a processor; and

one or more stored sequences of instructions which, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to;

receive a request for normalized social handles, the request including contact information and received in an on-demand service environment;

identify one or more normalized social handles associated with the contact information, the one or more normalized social handles corresponding to publicly available social handles provided by one or more social networks; and

provide the one or more normalized social handles in a response to the request.

10. The system of claim 9, wherein in identifying the one or more normalized social handles associated with the contact information, the processor is configured to:

determine whether the contact information received with the request matches with contact information stored in a database; and

retrieve the one or more normalized social handles from the database when the contact information received with the request matches the contact information stored in the database.

11. The system of claim 10, further comprising:

search a network for the publicly available social handles associated with the contact information when the contact information received with the request does not match the contact information stored in the database;

normalize the publicly available social handles to generate the one or more normalized social handles; and

store the one or more normalized social handles in the database.

12. The system of claim 11, wherein in normalizing the publicly available social handles, the processor is configured to extract a social handle identification (ID) from each of the publicly available social handles and include the social handle ID in a corresponding normalized social handle.

13. The system of claim 12, wherein a normalized social handle associated with a first social network is generated using a first format.

14. The system of claim 13, wherein a normalized social handle associated with a second social network is generated using a second format.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the one or more normalized social handles are provided in the response based on a confidence level order.

16. The system of claim 14, wherein the one or more normalized social handles are provided in the response based on social network grouping.

17. A computer program product, comprising a non-transitory computer-readable medium having a computer-readable program code embodied therein to be executed by one or more processors, the program code comprising instructions to:

receive a request for normalized social handles, the request including contact information and received in an on-demand service environment;

identify one or more normalized social handles associated with the contact information, the one or more normalized social handles corresponding to publicly available social handles provided by one or more social networks; and

provide the one or more normalized social handles in a response to the request.

18. The computer program product of claim 17, wherein in identifying the one or more normalized social handles associated with the contact information, the program code comprising instructions to:

determine whether the contact information received with the request matches with contact information stored in a database; and

retrieve the one or more normalized social handles from the database when the contact information received with the request matches the contact information stored in the database.

19. The computer program product of claim 18, the program code further comprising instructions to:

search a network for the publicly available social handles associated with the contact information when the contact information received with the request does not match the contact information stored in the database;

normalize the publicly available social handles to generate the one or more normalized social handles; and

store the one or more normalized social handles in the database.

The computer program product of claim 19, wherein in normalizing the publicly available social handles, the program code comprises instructions to extract a social handle identification (ID) from each of the publicly available social handles and include the social handle ID in a corresponding normalized social handle.
