Abstract

Control and feature systems for processing signals from a satellite positioning system include an expert system receiver manager; a joint detection, carrier centring and bit sync acquisition subsystem; peak detection; a multi-dimensional measurement interpolation subsystem; a system for mode switching between a navigational signal; and power control module for receiver.

Claims

1. A satellite positioning receiver, comprising:

a signal processing subsystem having a signal input;

a Fast Fourier Transfer (FFT) subsystem; and

a signal tracking loop that receives parameters from the FFT subsystem and adjust the signal input to the signal processing subsystem and is controlled by an oscillator and augmented by a software tracking loop.

2. The satellite positioning receiver of claim 1 where the software tracking loop further comprises:

an algorithm that uses the parameters in order to make an adjustment to the signal input of the signal processing system.

3. The satellite positioning receiver of claim 2, where the adjustment to the input of the signal processing system is made by the software tracking loop adjusting the operation of the NCO controlling the hardware tracking loop.

4. A satellite positioning receiver, comprising:

an input subsystem;

a Fast Fourier Transfer (FFT) subsystem;

a signal processing subsystem; and

a power control means that enables at least one of the input subsystem, Fast Fourier Transfer subsystem, and the signal processing subsystem to be placed in a reduced power state while the other subsystems are operating at normal power.

5. The satellite positioning receiver, where the power control means further includes:

a first signaling bit that signals a reduced power state associated with the FFT subsystem; and

a second signaling bit that signals a reduced power state associated with the signal processing subsystem.

6. A method of controlling a satellite positioning receiver in receipt of satellite positioning signals, comprising:

determining a search strategy for acquiring the satellite positioning signals;

configuring the satellite positioning receiver in accordance with the search strategy;

processing the satellite positioning signals

storing a plurality of data associated with the processing of the satellite positioning signal in a memory periodically; and

enabling power control of the satellite receiver based on the processing of the satellite positioning signals and the plurality of data in the memory.

7. The method of claim 6, where storing further includes storing operational data associated with the satellite positioning receiver every 100 ms.

8. A method of synchronization in a satellite positioning receiver, comprising:

receiving a positioning signal at a receiver;

summing samples of positioning signals received at the satellite positioning receiver within a pre-selected range over a moving window of pre-selected length resulting in a plurality of different hypothesis;

filling a plurality of bins with the sum of linear envelope over successive data bits where each bin is associated with one of the plurality of different hypothesis;

determining the bin with the largest magnitude; and

outputting a bit location for synchronization that enables the receiver to synchronize to the satellite positioning signal.

9. The method of claim 8, where the samples are inputs from a multi-point Fast Fourier Transform.
