Abstract

A prosthetic heart valve includes a stent having a collapsed condition and an expanded condition. The stent includes a plurality of cells, each cell being formed by a plurality of struts, and a plurality of commissure features. The heart valve further includes a valve assembly secured to the stent and including a cuff and a plurality of leaflets, each leaflet being attached to adjacent commissure features and to the stent struts and/or the cuff.

2. A prosthetic heart valve, comprising:

a stent having a collapsed condition and an expanded condition, the stent extending in a longitudinal direction between a proximal end and a distal end and including a plurality of cells arranged in annular rows around a circumference of the stent, each cell having an open space defined by a plurality of struts so that the cells have substantially a diamond shape, one of the annular rows of cells including a first group of cells each having at least one supplemental strut extending in an annular direction across the open space of the cell and a second group of cells devoid of any struts within the open space, each of the cells in the one annular row having the same shape; and

a valve assembly secured to the stent and including a cuff and a plurality of leaflets, each leaflet including a first edge adjacent to the cuff and a second edge spaced apart from the cuff, each leaflet being attached to at least one of the stent or the cuff so that at least a portion of the first edge of each leaflet is adjacent to at least one of the supplemental struts.

3. the prosthetic heart valve according to claim 2, wherein each leaflet is attached to the stent such that the first edge of each leaflet is disposed along at least three consecutive struts of the stent.

4. The prosthetic heart valve according to claim 2, wherein each leaflet meets an adjacent leaflet to form a commissure, the heart valve further comprising attachment features in the stent for attaching the commissures to the stent.

5. The prosthetic heart valve according to claim 4, wherein each leaflet is attached to the stent such that at least a portion of the first edge of each leaflet is attached to the attachment features.

6. The prosthetic heart valve according to claim 2, wherein each leaflet is attached to the stent such that the first edge of each leaflet is disposed along at least four struts of the stent.

7. The prosthetic heart valve according to claim 6, wherein the at least four struts do not collectively form one cell.

8. The prosthetic heart valve according to claim 2, wherein the supplemental struts have a serrated configuration.

9. A prosthetic heart valve, comprising:

a stent having a collapsed condition and an expanded condition, the stent extending in a longitudinal direction between a proximal end and a distal end and including a plurality of cells arranged in annular rows around a circumference of the stent, each cell having an open space defined by a plurality of struts so that the cells have substantially a diamond shape with a first end pointing toward the distal end of the stent and a second end pointing toward the proximal end of the stent, the stent including a supplemental strut extending in an annular direction across the open space of selected ones of the cells;

a plurality of commissure features disposed on the stent, each of the commissure features being disposed in the longitudinal direction between the first end of one cell and the second end of another cell so that the first end of the one cell, the commissure feature and the second end of the another cell are aligned with one another in the longitudinal direction; and

a valve assembly secured to the stent and including a cuff and a plurality of leaflets, each leaflet including a first edge adjacent to the cuff and a second edge spaced apart from the cuff, each leaflet being attached to at least one of the stent or the cuff so that at least a portion of the first edge of each leaflet is adjacent to a supplemental strut.
