1. A method comprising:

  • collecting, during a first time period and by a sensor (i) located on or in a first vehicle associated with an insurance policy and (ii) configured to sense an environment external to the first vehicle, first sensor data;

    receiving, at a communication interface of the first vehicle and during the first time period, first additional data from a second vehicle via a first set of one or more wireless signals;

    receiving, at an electronic processing system comprising a memory and one or more processors, the first sensor data and the first additional data;

    storing (i) the received first sensor data, and (ii) the received first additional data, in the memory;

    processing, via the one or more processors, (i) the stored first sensor data, and (ii) the stored first additional data, to determine a first set of one or more characteristics of the environment external to the first vehicle, wherein the first set of characteristics corresponds to the first time period;

    determining, via the one or more processors and based on the determined first set of characteristics, a first risk indicator representing a risk of loss associated with the first vehicle during the first time period;

    determining, via the one or more processors and based on the determined first risk indicator, a first insurance rating for the insurance policy associated with the first vehicle;

    collecting, during a second time period later than the first time period and by the sensor, second sensor data;

    receiving, at the communication interface of the first vehicle and during the second time period, second additional data from a third vehicle via a second set of one or more wireless signals;

    receiving, at the electronic processing system, the second sensor data and the second additional data;

    storing (i) the received second sensor data, and (ii) the received second additional data, in the memory;

    processing, via the one or more processors, (i) the stored second sensor data, and (ii) the stored second additional data, to determine a second set of one or more characteristics of the environment external to the first vehicle, wherein the second set of characteristics corresponds to the second time period;

    determining, via the one or more processors and based on the determined second set of characteristics, a second risk indicator representing a risk of loss associated with the first vehicle during the second time period; and

    determining, via the one or more processors and based on the determined second risk indicator, a second insurance rating for the insurance policy associated with the first vehicle.
