INSERTION DEVICE SYSTEMS AND METHODS
First Claim
1. An insertion system, the insertion system comprising:
- a base having a device housing, the base adapted to be carried by a patient, the device housing being configured to engage with an actuation device;
a carrier body supported by the device housing for movement at least between a retracted position and an advanced position, the carrier body for supporting a piercing member in a position orientated for insertion through skin of the patient upon movement of the carrier body from the retracted position to the advanced position, the carrier body being configured to operatively engage with a moveable carrier body of the actuation device so that the carrier body of the device housing is moved by the carrier body of the actuation device at least between the retracted position and the advanced position; and
a magnet or a magnetically attractive element attached to the carrier body of the device housing, for magnetic interaction with another magnet or magnetically attractive element on the carrier body of the actuation device, to magnetically connect the carrier body of the device housing with the carrier body of the actuation device.

Abstract
An insertion device may include a device housing configured to be operatively engaged with and disengaged from a base, and engageable with an actuation device, the device housing having a carrier body supporting a piercing member. The carrier body moveable by a carrier body of the actuation device at least between a retracted position and an advanced position. The device housing having a section for supporting a portion of the carrier body of the device housing, the section moveable relative to the carrier body of the device housing to provide sufficient clearance to allow the carrier body of the device housing to be moved by the carrier body of the actuation device.

16. A method of making an insertion system, the method comprising:
-
providing a base having a device housing, the base adapted to be carried by a patient; supporting a carrier body on the device housing, for movement at least between a retracted position and an advanced position; supporting a piercing member on the carrier body, in a position orientated to be inserted through skin of the patient when the base is carried by the patient and the carrier body is moved from the retracted position to the advanced position, configuring an actuation device to be selectively engaged with and disengaged from the device housing; configuring the actuation device to be selectively operated to move the carrier body of the device housing at least between the retracted position and the advanced position, upon the actuation device being engaged with the device housing; and providing at least one of the device housing and the actuation device with a magnet, and the other of the at least one of the device housing and the actuation device with a magnetically attractive element for magnetic interaction with the magnet. - View Dependent Claims (17, 18, 19, 20)
