Abstract

In embodiments, the present invention provides a method and system for managing playback of content delivered to a mobile device with a pause and resume functionality. The method and system including receiving delivered content on a mobile device, initiating playback of the delivered content, pausing playback of the content being delivered to the mobile device in response to an action and resuming delivery of the content upon a request.

Claims

2. A method for managing playback of content, comprising:

delivering content to a mobile device over a wireless network;

pausing delivery of the content to facilitate playback of an advertisement in response to a content pause action utilizing an algorithm to determine a duration of play time between advertisements; and

resuming delivery of the content over the wireless network at the point at which the delivery of the content was paused.

3. The method of claim 2, further including pausing playback of the content delivered to the mobile device in response to the content pause action.

4. The method of claim 2, wherein resuming delivery is in response to receiving a resume delivery signal over the wireless network.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein receiving the resume delivery signal occurs during playback of the advertisement.

6. The method of claim 2, wherein the content pause action includes delivery of an advertisement to the mobile device.

7. The method of claim 2, wherein the content pause action includes identifying a change of scene in the content.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein identifying a change of scene in the content includes processing the content during playback with an image analysis algorithm that facilitates detecting a change of scene in the content that is suitable for playback of the advertisement.

9. The method of claim 2, wherein the content pause action is based on a degree of proximity in time to a prohibited advertisement.

10. The method of claim 2, wherein the pausing delivery is responsive to detecting playback of the advertisement.

11. A method for managing playback of content, comprising:

pausing playback of received content on a mobile device in response to a pause playback action utilizing an algorithm to determine a duration of play time between advertisements;

initiating playback of an advertisement; and

resuming playback upon completion of playback of the advertisement at the point at which playback was paused.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein pausing playback of the received content occurs during delivery of the content to the mobile device over a wireless network.

13. The method of claim 11, wherein initiating playback of the advertisement includes presenting the advertisement as a frame around the delivered content.

14. The method of claim 11, wherein initiating playback of the advertisement is independent of specific support for advertisements in the delivered content.

15. The method of claim 11, wherein the pause playback action includes delivery of an advertisement to the mobile device.

16. The method of claim 11, wherein initiating playback of the advertisement is based on a degree of proximity in time to a prohibited advertisement.

17. The method of claim 11, wherein the pause playback action includes identifying a change of scene in the content.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein identifying a change of scene in the content includes processing the content during playback with an image analysis algorithm that facilitates detecting a change of scene in the content that is suitable for playback of the advertisement.

19. The method of claim 11, wherein initiating playback of the advertisement is responsive to a user interacting with a message presented on the mobile device while playback is paused.

20. The method of claim 19, wherein the message presented to the user is an advertisement.

21. A method for managing playback of content, comprising:

receiving content on a mobile device over a wireless network;

initiating playback of the received content on the mobile device;

pausing playback of the received content in response to a pause playback action utilizing an algorithm to determine a duration of play time between advertisements;

sending a delivery pause signal over the wireless network to pause delivery of the content being received by the mobile device in response to the pause playback action; and

sending a resume delivery signal over the wireless network to resume delivery of the content being received by the mobile device at the point at which the delivery of the content was paused.

22. The method of claim 21, wherein the playback action includes receiving an advertisement to the mobile device.

23. The method of claim 21, wherein the action is detecting playback of the advertisement.
