Abstract

An image processing apparatus according to an embodiment has an identification unit, a detection unit, and a determination unit. The image processing apparatus according to the embodiment identifies moving image data taken by a camera in the night-time and detects a high-brightness region from frames of the identified moving image data. The image processing apparatus determines whether or not the high-brightness region is a subject to be detected, in a switchable manner depending on whether the moving image data has been taken during curve running or straight running.

Claims

1. An image processing apparatus, comprising a processor configured to execute a process comprising:

identifying moving image data taken by a camera in the night-time;

detecting a region of brightness from frames of the moving image data; and

determining whether the region is a subject to be detected, in a different manner depending on whether the moving image data has been taken during curve running or straight running.

The image processing apparatus according to claim 1, wherein, when the moving image data have been taken during curve running, the determining determines whether to set the region as a subject to be detected, based on changes in the speed of a moving object or changes in the distance between the camera and the region after the detection of the region.

3. The image processing apparatus according to claim 2, wherein

the moving image data is associated with speed data, and

the identifying identifies frames describing deceleration out of the frames included in the moving image data.

4. The image processing apparatus according to claim 3, wherein the detecting detects the region from a predetermined area including a lane in which the moving object is running.

5. An image processing method executed by a computer, the method comprising:

identifying moving image data taken by a camera in the night-time;

detecting a high-brightness region from frames of the identified moving image data; and

determining whether or not the high-brightness region is a subject to be detected, in a switchable manner depending on whether the moving image data has been taken during curve running or straight running.

6. A computer-readable recording medium having stored therein an image processing program that causes a computer to execute a process including:

identifying moving image data taken by a camera in the night-time;

detecting a region of brightness from frames of the moving image data; and

determining whether the region is a subject to be detected, in a different manner depending on whether the moving image data has been taken during curve running or straight running.
