Abstract

Methods and apparatus to enable a trading device to accept a user input are disclosed. An example method includes generating, via a computing device, a user interface of a trading application, wherein the user interface includes a locked portion that displays market data. The example method also includes detecting a gestural input with respect to the user interface. The example method also includes detecting a gestural event with respect to the user interface associated with the gestural input and, in response to the detected gestural event, unlocking the locked portion of the user interface.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

generating, via a computing device, a user interface of a trading application, the user interface including a locked portion that displays market data;

detecting a gestural input with respect to the user interface;

detecting a gestural event with respect to the user interface associated with the gestural input; and

in response to the detected gestural event, unlocking the locked portion of the user interface.

2. The method as described in claim 1, wherein unlocking the locked portion further comprises enabling selection of a trade action control included in the user interface.

3. The method as described in claim 1, wherein the gestural input includes a multi-touch interaction.

4. The method as described in claim 3, wherein the gestural event includes rotating the gestural input in a direction.

5. The method as described in claim 4, further comprising:

detecting a second gestural event with respect to the user interface, wherein the second gestural event includes rotating the gestural input in a second direction; and

in response to the detected second gestural event, locking the unlocked portion of the user interface.

6. The method as described in claim 1, wherein the user interface includes an activation control corresponding to an unlock region.

7. The method as described in claim 6, wherein the gestural input includes selection of the activation control.

8. The method as described in claim 7, wherein the gestural event includes holding the gestural input.

9. The method as described in claim 8, further comprising:

detecting a second gestural event with respect to the user interface, wherein the second gestural event includes releasing the gestural input; and

in response to the detected second gestural event, locking the unlocked portion of the user interface.

10. An apparatus comprising:

a computing device to;

generate a user interface of a trading application, the user interface to include a locked portion that displays market data;

detect a gestural input with respect to the user interface;

detect a gestural event with respect to the user interface associated with the gestural input; and

in response to the detected gestural event, unlock the locked portion of the user interface.

11. The apparatus as described in claim 10, further comprising the computing device to enable selection of a trade action control included in the user interface.

12. The apparatus as described in claim 10, wherein the gestural input is to include a multi-touch interaction.

13. The apparatus as described in claim 12, wherein the gestural input is to include a rotation of the gestural input in a direction.

14. The apparatus as described in claim 13, further comprising the computing device to:

detect a second gestural event with respect to the user interface, and wherein the second gestural event is to include a rotation of the gestural input in a second direction; and

in response to the detected second gestural event, lock the unlocked portion of the user interface.

15. The apparatus as described in claim 10, wherein the user interface is to include an activation control that is to correspond to an unlock region.

16. The apparatus as described in claim 15, wherein the gestural input is to include a selection of the activation control.

17. The apparatus as described in claim 16, wherein the gestural event is to include a hold of the gestural input.

18. The apparatus as described in claim 17, further comprising the computing device to:

detect a second gestural event with respect to the user interface, and wherein the second gestural event is to include a release of the gestural input; and

in response to the detected second gestural event, lock the unlocked portion of the user interface.

19. A tangible computer readable storage medium including computer program code to be executed by a processor, the computer program, when executed, to implement a method comprising:

generating, via a computing device, a user interface of a trading application, the user interface including a locked portion that displays market data;

detecting a gestural input with respect to the user interface;

detecting a gestural event with respect to the user interface associated with the gestural input; and

in response to the detected gestural event, unlocking the locked portion of the user interface.

20. The tangible computer readable storage medium as described in claim 19, wherein unlocking the locked portion further comprises enabling selection of a trade action control included in the user interface.

21. The tangible computer readable storage medium as described in claim 19, wherein the gestural input includes a multi-touch interaction.

22. The tangible computer readable storage medium as described in claim 21, wherein the gestural event includes rotating the gestural input in a direction.

23. The tangible computer readable storage medium as described in claim 22, further comprising:

detecting a second gestural event with respect to the user interface, wherein the second gestural event includes rotating the gestural input in a second direction; and

in response to the detected second gestural event, locking the unlocked portion of the user interface.

24. The tangible computer readable storage medium as described in claim 19, wherein the user interface includes an activation control corresponding to an unlock region.

25. The tangible computer readable storage medium as described in claim 24, wherein the gestural input includes selection of the activation control.

26. The tangible computer readable storage medium as described in claim 25, wherein the gestural event includes holding the gestural input.

27. The tangible computer readable storage medium as described in claim 26, further comprising:

detecting a second gestural event with respect to the user interface, wherein the second gestural event includes releasing the gestural input; and

in response to the detected second gestural event, locking the unlocked portion of the user interface.
