Abstract

A multisite sensing system including two or more analyte sensors, an interface device, and a shared bus. The interface device may be configured to receive a power signal and generate power for powering the analyte sensors and to convey data signals generated by the analyte sensors. The shared bus connected to the interface device and each of the analyte sensors and configured to provide the power generated by the interface device to the analyte sensors and to provide the data signals generated by the analyte sensors to the interface device. The interface device may be an inductive element. The shared bus may be a two wire, multiplexed bus. The analyte sensors may be spatially separated for analyte sensing at least two different locations. The analyte sensors may generate data signals indicative of the presence and/or amount of the same analyte or of one or more different analytes.

Claims

1. A multisite sensing system comprising:

two or more analyte sensors;

an interface device configured to receive a power signal and generate power for powering the two or more analyte sensors and to convey data signals generated by the two or more analyte sensors; and

a shared bus connected to the interface device and each of the two or more sensors and configured to provide the power generated by the interface device to the two or more analyte sensors and to provide the data signals generated by the two or more analyte sensors to the interface device.

2. The multisite sensing system of claim 1, wherein the shared bus is a multiplexed bus.

3. The multisite sensing system of claim 1, wherein the shared bus consists of two wires.

4. The multisite sensing system of claim 1, wherein two or more of the analyte sensors are spatially separated for analyte sensing at least two different locations.

5. The multisite sensing system of claim 1, comprising three or more analyte sensors.

6. The multisite sensing system of claim 1, wherein the interface device is an antenna.

7. The multisite sensing system of claim 1, wherein the interface device is an inductive element.

8. The multisite sensing system of claim 1, wherein the interface device is a coil.

9. The multisite sensing system of claim 1, wherein two or more of the analyte sensors generate data signals indicative of the presence and/or amount of the same analyte.

The multisite sensing system of claim 1, wherein one of the analyte sensors generates data signals indicative of the presence and/or amount of a first analyte, and another of the analyte sensors generates data signals indicative of the presence and/or amount of a second analyte that is different than the first analyte.

11. The multisite sensing system of claim 1, wherein each of the two or more analyte sensors comprises:

an analyte indicator configured to exhibit a detectable property based on the amount or concentration of the analyte in proximity to the analyte indicator; and

sensor elements configured to generate a data signal based on the detectable property exhibited by the analyte indicator.

12. The multisite sensing system of claim 11, wherein the analyte indicator is a polymer graft including indicator molecules.

13. The multisite sensing system of claim 11, wherein the sensor elements include a light source and a light detector.

14. The multisite sensing system of claim 11, wherein each of the two or more analyte sensors comprises a substrate, and one or more of the sensors elements is fabricated in or mounted on the substrate.

15. The multisite sensing system of claim 1, further comprising a housing containing the two or more analyte sensors, shared bus, and interface device.

16. The multisite sensing system of claim 15, wherein each of the two or more analyte sensors comprises an indicator element embedded within and/or covering at least a portion of the housing.

17. The multisite sensing system of claim 1, wherein the sensors include circuitry configured to (i) extract an address from the generated power and (ii) initiate an analye measurement and generate data signals only if the extracted address matches the address of the sensor.

18. The multisite sensing system of claim 17, wherein the sensors extract the address from modulations in a current generated by the interface device, and the sensors are powered by the current generated by the interface device.
