Abstract

A server device may receive file data from a user device via a web browser application associated with the user device. The file data may be extracted by an application, different from the web browser application, associated with the user device. The server device may determine an acquisition technique based on the file data; obtain a computer file, associated with the file data, using the acquisition technique; receive, from the user device, a request to transmit a message including the computer file; insert the computer file in the message; and transmit the message.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

receiving, by a server device, file data from a user device via a web browser application associated with the user device,

the file data being extracted by an application different from the web browser application;

determining, by the server device, an acquisition technique based on the file data;

obtaining, by the server device, a computer file, associated with the file data, using the acquisition technique;

receiving, by the server device and from the user device, a request to transmit a message including the computer file;

inserting, by the server device, the computer file in the message; and

transmitting, by the server device, the message.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the file data includes a universal resource locator (URL), and wherein obtaining the computer file includes:

requesting the computer file from a source device identified by the URL, and

receiving the computer file from the source device based on requesting the computer file.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the file data includes embedded source data, and wherein obtaining the computer file includes decoding the embedded source data.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the file data includes a binary file corresponding to the computer file, and wherein obtaining the computer file includes receiving the computer file from the user device as part of the file data.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the file data includes a binary file corresponding to the computer file, and wherein obtaining the computer file includes:

providing an instruction to cause the user device to process the computer file and provide the computer file to the server device after processing the computer file, and

receiving the computer file based on the provided instruction.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

processing the computer file after obtaining the computer file,

the processing including at least one of;

converting the computer file from a first file type to a second file type,

compressing the computer file, or

applying an image enhancement filter,

wherein transmitting the computer file is based on processing the computer file.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein processing the computer file is based on attributes of the computer file, information identifying a sender of computer file, information identifying a recipient of the computer file, or attributes of a network via which the computer file is transmitted.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the web browser application is a first web browser application and wherein the application includes at least one of:

a second web browser application,

a media browser application, or

a file browser application.

9. A system comprising:

a server device, comprising;

a non-transitory memory device storing;

a plurality of processor-executable instructions; and

a processor configured to execute the plurality of processor-executable instructions, wherein executing the processor-executable instructions causes the processor to;

receive file data from a user device via a web browser application associated with the user device,

the file data being extracted by an application, different from the web browser application, associated with the user device;

determine an acquisition technique based on the file data;

obtain a computer file, associated with the file data, using the acquisition technique;

receive, from the user device, a request to transmit a message including the computer file;

insert the computer file in the message; and

transmit the message.

10. The system of claim 9, wherein the file data includes a universal resource locator (URL),

wherein the plurality of processor executable instructions, to obtain the computer file, further causes the processor to:

request the computer file from a source device identified by the URL, and

receive the computer file from the source device based on requesting the computer file.

11. The system of claim 9, wherein the file data includes embedded source data,

wherein the plurality of processor executable instructions, to obtain the computer file, further causes the processor to decode the embedded source data.

12. The system of claim 9, wherein the file data includes a binary file corresponding to the computer file,

wherein the plurality of processor executable instructions, to obtain the computer file, further causes the processor to receive the computer file from the user device as part of the file data.

13. The system of claim 9, wherein the file data includes a binary file corresponding to the computer file,

wherein the plurality of processor executable instructions, to obtain the computer file, further causes the processor to:

provide an instruction to cause the user device to process the computer file and provide the computer file to the server device after processing the computer file, and

receive the computer file based on the provided the instruction.

14. The system of claim 9, wherein the processor-executable instructions further causes the processor to:

process the computer file after obtaining the computer file,

wherein the plurality of processor executable instructions, to process the computer file, further causes the processor to;

convert the computer file from a first file type to a second file type,

compress the computer file, or

apply an image enhancement filter,

wherein the plurality of processor executable instructions, to transmit the computer file, further causes the processor to transmit the computer file based on processing the computer file.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the plurality of processor executable instructions, to process the computer file, further causes the processor to process the computer file based on attributes of the computer file, information identifying a sender of computer file, information identifying a recipient of the computer file, or attributes of a network via which the computer file is transmitted.

16. The system of claim 9, wherein the web browser application is a first web browser application and wherein the application includes at least one of:

a second web browser application,

a media browser application, or

a file browser application.

17. A method comprising:

receiving, by a user device, user input to drag and drop an image from a first application to a messaging client associated with a second application,

the first application being different from the second application,

the second application being a web browser application;

extracting, by the user device and via the first application, image data associated with the dragging and dropping of the image; and

providing, by the user device and via the messaging client, the image data to a server device to cause the server device to obtain the image using the image data.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein the web browser application is a first web browser application and wherein the first application includes at least one of:

a second web browser application,

a media browser application, or

a file browser application.

19. The method of claim 17, wherein the image data includes a binary file corresponding to the image,

the method further comprising:

receiving an instruction to process the image and provide the image to the server device after processing the image;

process the image in accordance with the instruction; and

provide the processed image to the server device.

20. The method of claim 19 wherein processing the image includes at least one of:

converting the image from a first file type to a second file type,

compressing the image, or

applying an image enhancement filter to the image file.
