Abstract

A Mailport that solves a variety of problems caused by the proliferation of Automated Parcel Carriers, including unmanned aerial vehicles (“UAVs”). The preferred embodiment of the invention features an access aperture designed to retrieve and transfer packages to and from Automated Parcel Carriers. The preferred embodiment of the invention also features a storage area for parcels, and a secured aperture to enable intended recipients to receive or send Parcels as appropriate. Various embodiments of the invention may stand alone or otherwise integrate within the structure of a building.

Claims

1. The invention as described herein.

2. A Mailport, comprising:

one or more Parcel storage enclosures;

an access interface for Automated Parcel Carriers; and

one or more apertures for Parcel transfer.

3. The invention of claim 2, further comprising a Parcel identification system.

4. The invention of claim 2, further comprising a Translocator Receptacle.

5. The invention of claim 2, further comprising a structure that protects a Parcel or a plurality of Parcels from destruction, theft, and observation.

6. The invention of claim 2, further comprising a Communication System.

7. The invention of claim 6, wherein said Communication System enables communication between the Mailport and an Automated Parcel Carrier.

8. The invention of claim 6, wherein said Communication System enables communication between the Mailport and a human via an electronic device.

9. The invention of claim 6, wherein said Communication System enables communication between the Mailport and another Mailport or other Mailports.

10. The invention of claim 2, further comprising a Controller.

11. The invention of claim 10, wherein said Controller enables communication between the Mailport and an Automated Parcel Carrier or a plurality of Automated Parcel Carrier.

12. The invention of claim 10, wherein said Controller enables communication between the Automated Parcel Carrier and the Communication System.

13. The invention of claim 10, wherein said Controller enables communication between the Automated Parcel Carrier and a docking system.

14. The invention of claim 10, wherein said Controller enables communication between a Controller or Automated Parcel Carrier and another Controller, Automated Parcel Carriers, or Mailport or another Controller, Automated Parcel Carriers, or Mailport.

15. The invention of claim 2, further comprising an enclosed space to house an Automatic Parcel Carrier.

16. The invention of claim 15 wherein said enclosed space includes facilities to repair and recharge an Automated Parcel Carrier.

17. A method, comprising:

directing an Automated Parcel Carrier to deliver a Parcel or plurality of Parcels to a Mailport;

transferring a Parcel or plurality of Parcels into said Mailport from said Automated Parcel Carrier;

retrieving said Parcel or plurality of Parcels from said Mailport at a subsequent time.

18. The method described in claim 17, further comprising:

sorting a Parcel or a plurality of Parcels within said Mailport;

translocating a Parcel or a plurality of Parcels within said Mailport to a location where only the Parcel'"'"'s or plurality of Parcels'"'"' recipient may receive said Parcel or plurality of Parcels;

opening a aperture into said Mailport to enable the intended recipient to retrieve said Parcel or plurality of Parcels.

19. The method described in claim 17, further comprising:

matching a Parcel or plurality of Parcels with an Automated Parcel Carrier intended to receive said Parcel or plurality of Parcels;

connecting said Automated Parcel Carrier intended to receive said Parcel or plurality of Parcels to a Mailport;

transferring said Parcel or plurality of Parcels to said Automated Parcel Carrier intended to receive said Parcel or plurality of Parcels to a Mailport.
