Abstract

LED lighting systems, mounting configurations, and light fixtures are disclosed for original and retrofit configurations. Some configurations mount the light fixture with a mounting bracket that allows for the removal and replacement of the light fixture in about the same time as a traditional light bulb change. Some configurations provide for fuse removal and replacement without the need to dismount the light fixture from its mounting bracket or without the need to open the housing of the light fixture to access the fuses. Some configurations use a battery backup system and self-check methods with LED light fixtures configured for public transportation applications.

Claims

1. An LED light fixture comprising:

a fixture housing;

a plurality of LEDs carried by the fixture housing for providing light from the fixture housing;

an LED power supply carried within the fixture housing;

a sealed fuse housing carried by the fixture housing; and

a first fuse disposed within the sealed fuse housing;

a positive power connection between the first fuse and the LED power supply.

2. The light fixture of claim 1, wherein the sealed fuse housing includes an access door that can be opened and closed from outside of the fixture housing such that the fixture housing does not have to be opened or dismounted to remove the first fuse from the sealed fuse housing.

3. The light fixture of claim 2, wherein the fixture housing is mounted to a mounting bracket.

4. The light fixture of claim 3, wherein the first fuse is carried by a fuse holder that moves at least partially out through the access door such that the first fuse can be removed from the sealed fuse housing through the access door when the access door is open;

the access door allowing the first fuse to be replaced without removing the base from the mounting bracket.

5. The light fixture of claim 1, further comprising a second fuse disposed within the sealed fuse housing.

6. The light fixture of claim 5, further comprising a neutral power connection between the second fuse and the LED power supply.

7. An LED light fixture comprising:

a fixture housing;

a plurality of LEDs carried by the fixture housing for providing light from the fixture housing;

an LED power supply carried within the fixture housing;

a first fuse disposed within the fixture housing;

a positive power connection between the first fuse and the LED power supply; and

a second fuse disposed within the sealed fuse housing;

a neutral power connection between the second fuse and the LED power supply.

8. The LED light fixture of claim 7, wherein the first and second fuses are connected to a 110-277 Volt power source.

9. The LED light fixture of claim 7, wherein the first and second fuses are connected to a 450 to 1000 Volt power source.

10. The LED light fixture of claim 7, wherein the first and second fuses are connected to a 480 Volt three phase power source.

11. The LED light fixture of claim 7, wherein the first and second fuses are carried by fuse holders disposed in a sealed fuse housing carried by the fixture housing.

12. The LED light fixture of claim 11, wherein the fuse holders are carried by a slide-out drawer of the sealed fuse housing.

13. A LED fight fixture used in a public transportation facility having a high voltage power source, a first standard voltage power source, and a second standard voltage power source;

the LED light fixture comprising;

a fixture housing;

a plurality of LEDs carried by the fixture housing for providing light from the fixture housing;

an LED power supply carried within the fixture housing;

the LED power supply having a first power input connected to the first standard voltage power source, a second power input connected to the second standard voltage power source, and a third power input connected to the high voltage power source; and

a battery backup system connected to one of the plurality of LEDs and the LED power supply.

14. The LED light fixture of claim 13, further comprising a battery charger;

the battery charger being powered by one of the LED power supply and the high voltage power source.

15. The LED light fixture of claim 13, further comprising a battery self-test circuit that generates data representative of the status of the battery backup system and a wireless communication device that transmits the data.

16. The LED light fixture of claim 15, further comprising an activation switch for the battery self-test circuit.

17. The LED light fixture of claim 16, wherein the activation switch is magnetically operable.

18. The LED light fixture of claim 16, wherein the activation switch is activated with a radio frequency transmission from a transmitter.
