Abstract

A computer-implemented method, carried out by one or more processors, for managing serviceability modes in a data center. In an embodiment, the method comprises the steps of receiving a serviceability mode selection for a component in a data center, wherein the serviceability mode correlates to information presented by one or more components in the data center; assigning a scheme for one or more LEDs on the component based, at least in part, on the received serviceability mode selection; and determining to activate the one or more LEDs on the component based at least on the assigned scheme.

Claims

1. A method for managing serviceability modes in a data center, the method comprising:

receiving, by one or more processors, a serviceability mode selection for a component in a data center, wherein the serviceability mode correlates to information presented by one or more components in the data center;

assigning, by one or more processors, a scheme for one or more LEDs on the component based, at least in part, on the received serviceability mode selection; and

determining, by one or more processors, to activate the one or more LEDs on the component based at least on the assigned scheme.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

sending, by one or more processors, the received serviceability mode to other components of the one or more components in the data center.

3. The method of claim 2, further comprising:

receiving, by one or more processors, the serviceability mode selection for the component in the data center through the user interface.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

displaying, by one or more processors, the identified information in the user interface.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the serviceability mode selection includes at least one of:

identify and locate mode, repair and verify mode, environment monitor mode, and management tool mode.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the information is presented through at least one or more light emitting diodes (LEDs) for each of the one or more components in the data center.

7. The method of claim 3, wherein the serviceability mode selection of the data center through the user interface includes at least two or more serviceability modes.

8. A computer program product for managing serviceability modes in a data center, the computer program product comprising:

one or more computer readable tangible storage media and program instructions stored on at least one of the one or more storage media, the program instructions comprising;

program instructions to receive a serviceability mode selection for a component in a data center, wherein the serviceability mode correlates to information presented by one or more components in the data center;

program instructions to assign a scheme for one or more LEDs on the component based, at least in part, on the received serviceability mode selection; and

program instructions to determine to activate the one or more LEDs on the component based at least on the assigned scheme.

9. The computer program product of claim 8, further comprising program instructions, stored on the one or more computer readable storage media, which when executed by a processor:

send the received serviceability mode to other components of the one or more components in the data center.

10. The computer program product of claim 9, further comprising program instructions, stored on the one or more computer readable storage media, which when executed by a processor:

receive the serviceability mode selection for the component in the data center through the user interface.

11. The computer program product of claim 8, further comprising program instructions, stored on the one or more computer readable storage media, which when executed by a processor:

display the identified information in the user interface.

12. The computer program product of claim 8, wherein the serviceability mode selection includes at least one of:

identify and locate mode, repair and verify mode, environment monitor mode, and management tool mode.

13. The computer program product of claim 8, wherein the information is presented through at least one or more light emitting diodes (LEDs) for each of the one or more components in the data center.

14. The computer program product of claim 10, wherein the serviceability mode selection of the data center through the user interface includes at least two or more serviceability modes.

15. A computer system for managing serviceability modes in a data center, the computer system comprising:

one or more computer processors;

one or more computer readable storage media;

program instructions stored on the computer readable storage media for execution by at least one of the one or more computer processors, the program instructions comprising;

program instructions to receive a serviceability mode selection for a component in a data center, wherein the serviceability mode correlates to information presented by one or more components in the data center;

program instructions to assign a scheme for one or more LEDs on the component based, at least in part, on the received serviceability mode selection; and

program instructions to determine to activate the one or more LEDs on the component based at least on the assigned scheme.

16. The computer system of claim 15, further comprising program instructions, stored on the one or more computer readable storage media, which when executed by a processor:

send the received serviceability mode to other components of the one or more components in the data center.

17. The computer system of claim 16, further comprising program instructions, stored on the one or more computer readable storage media, which when executed by a processor:

receive the serviceability mode selection for the component in the data center through the user interface.

18. The computer system of claim 15, further comprising program instructions, stored on the one or more computer readable storage media, which when executed by a processor:

display the identified information in the user interface.

19. The computer system of claim 15, wherein the serviceability mode selection includes at least one of:

identify and locate mode, repair and verify mode, environment monitor mode, and management tool mode.

20. The computer system of claim 17, wherein the serviceability mode selection of the data center through the user interface includes at least two or more serviceability modes.
