PRIVACY PROTECTED PUBLIC TRANSIT DATA MINING METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR EFFECTIVE PASSENGER DETOURING
First Claim
1. A method for determining travel patterns of a passenger that uses one or more transportation operators, the method comprising the steps of:
- generating, by the one or more operators, one or more trip patterns for each passenger indicating the use of one or more services provided by the operator based on transit data collected by the operator that is unique to the passenger, the trip patterns include an origin location, a destination location, and a time range;
calculating, by the one or more operators, a probability value of each trip pattern indicating a frequency the trip pattern is used by the passenger during a period of time based on the transit data, the probability value is calculated by dividing the number of times the trip pattern is used by the passenger by the period of time;
assigning, by the one or more operators, the calculated probability value to the trip pattern;
sending, by the one or more operators, the trip pattern having the assigned probability value;
receiving, by a mobile device of the passenger, one or more trip patterns from the one or more operators having assigned probability values; and
associating, by the mobile device of the passenger, the one or more trip patterns received to generate travel patterns, the trip patterns are associated based on their probability, origin, destination, and time range.

Abstract
A method and system that provides detouring services to passengers and transportation operators. Transportation operators send data indicating prior uses of the operator to the passengers'"'"' mobile device and the system on the mobile device compiles the data to form travel patterns of the passenger. The travel patterns are assigned a probability indicating the frequency the travel pattern is used by the passenger. When a disruption of a service of an operator occurs, a detouring service provides detour suggestions to the passengers and travel demand changes to the operators. In another approach, an in-station display displays suggested detour routes based on the top destinations of stranded passengers and the passenger'"'"'s mobile phones are not used to display or perform detouring.

4. A passenger detouring system providing service disruption information, detour suggestion information to passengers, and travel demand change information to one or more transportation operators providing transportation services, comprising:
-
one or more transportation operator computing systems corresponding to each of the one or more operators, each computing system is coupled to a database storing transit data collected by the operator that is unique to each passenger, a detouring service provider computing system coupled to another database; one or more passenger mobile devices, each including a storage device, and a computing unit, wherein the operator computing systems, detouring service provider and one or more passenger mobile devices communicate via one or more networks, each operator computing system generates trip patterns of each passenger based on the transit data stored in the database, the computing unit of the mobile device analyzes the travel patterns belonging to one of the passengers and identifies whether the passenger is affected when a disruption occurs in the service provided by a transportation operator based on identifying affected trip patterns by using disruption information sent from an operator of the one or more operators, and generates and sends detour requests including information relating to the identified affected trip pattern to the detouring service provider computing system, the detouring service provider computing system searches for detours based on the detour request and generates detour suggestions based on detours found in the search, and the detouring service provider computing system analyzes travel demand changes indicating a change in the number of passengers using a service of an operator based on the detour requests and detour suggestions. - View Dependent Claims (5, 6)

7. A passenger detouring system that displays detours to destinations of passengers, comprising:
-
one or more operator computing systems corresponding to each of a plurality of operators providing transportation services at one or more stations positioned at geographical locations, each computing system is coupled to a database storing transit data collected by the operator that is unique to each passenger; and a detouring service provider computing system coupled to another database and coupled to one or more displays provided at one or more of the stations of each of the plurality of operators, wherein the one or more operator computing systems communicate with the detouring service computing system provider via a network, each operator computing system generates one or more trip patterns of each passenger based on the transit data stored in the database, each trip pattern includes an origin, a destination, and a time range, upon a disruption in the transportation service provided by each operator, the operator computing system generates disruption information indicating information of the disruption, and identifies one or more trip patterns of a passenger affected by the disruption in the transportation service by comparing the disruption information with the trip pattern of the passenger, and generates an affected passengers list that includes the one or more identified trip patterns of the passenger, one or more operator computing systems search for trip patterns that can be associated with the identified trip patterns, and sends trip pattern responses to the detouring service provider computing system including at least a destination of a trip pattern that can be associated with the identified affected trip pattern, the detouring service provider computing system analyzes the trip pattern responses and determines if the destination in the trip pattern response is a journey destination and if the destination in the trip pattern response is a journey destination, the destination is stored as a journey destination in the database, and the detouring service provider computing system identifies detour information for one or more journey destinations in the database and displays the detour information in the displays provided in the one or more stations. - View Dependent Claims (8, 9, 10, 11)
