1. A computer-implemented method, comprising:
- obtaining atlas registration information regarding a patient from a surgical planning module in which a surgical trajectory for implantation of a leadwire is generated;
obtaining from the surgical planning module a target volume to be activated;
determining, by a processor, stimulation parameter settings that are estimated to provide stimulation in at least a portion of the target volume;
analyzing, by the processor, effects of stimulations performed on a plurality of patients of a patient population;
based on the analysis, determining, by the processor, a new target volume; and
providing the new target volume for access by the surgical planning module.

A computer implemented system and method facilitates a cycle of generation, sharing, and refinement of volumes related to stimulation of anatomical tissue, such as brain or spinal cord stimulation. Such volumes can include target stimulation volumes, side effect volumes, and volumes of estimated activation. A computer system and method also facilitates analysis of groups of volumes, including analysis of differences and/or commonalities between different groups of volumes.
