1. An object recognition apparatus, comprising:
- an image capturing unit configured to capture a first image based on infrared or near-infrared light and a second image based on visible light, an object being included in the first and second images, respectively;
a storage unit storing image data of articles; and
a processing unit configured to determine a first portion of the first image in which the object is contained, extract a second portion of the second image corresponding to the first portion, and select one of the articles as a candidate for the object based on the second portion of the second image and the stored image data.

10. A method for determining a candidate for an object, comprising:
-
receiving image data of a first image based on infrared or near-infrared light and image data of a second image based on visible light, an object being included in the first and second images, respectively; storing image data of articles; determining a first portion of the first image in which the object is contained; extracting a second portion of the second image corresponding to the first portion; and selecting one of the articles as a candidate for the object based on the second portion of the second image and the stored image data. - View Dependent Claims (11, 12, 13, 14, 15)

16. A method for determining a candidate for an object, comprising:
-
receiving image data of a first image based on infrared or near-infrared light and image data of a second image based on visible light, an object being included in the first and second images, respectively; storing image data of articles; determining whether or not a second portion of the second image in which the object is contained, is determinable; when the second portion is determinable, determining the second portion and selecting one of the articles as a candidate for the object based on the determined second portion and the stored image data; and when the second portion is not determinable, determining a first portion of the first image in which the object is contained, extracting a second portion of the second image corresponding to the first portion, and selecting one of the articles as a candidate for the object based on the extracted second portion and the stored image data. - View Dependent Claims (17, 18, 19, 20)
