Abstract

A system and method are provided in accordance with the various aspects of the invention that enhance the information regarding a caller and a call location. Such calls are typically sent to a dispatcher that handles urgent or emergency calls. The information provided can be in the form of a message that is includes specifics about the call initiator and the nature of and/or reason for the call; a message that is converted to verbal form from text-to-speech; and/or the message may include location information, especially as it relates to representing a wireless device as a landline location based on nearby communication options, such as Wi-Fi or Bluetooth beacons.

Claims

1. A device operable to communicate with a network, the device comprising:

at least one processor;

at least one receiver operably connected to the at least one processor; and

at least one memory operably connected to the at least one processor,

wherein the at least one memory includes instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the device to;

generate a message that includes location information about the device; and

send the message to a call handler.

2. The device of claim 1, wherein the device is further cause to update the message to include medical information.

3. The device of claim 2, wherein the device further comprises a display in communication with the at least one processor and as a user accesses the medical information through the display, the device is further caused to include medical information that is specific to the user.

4. The device of claim 2, wherein the medical information includes information specific to medical situation.

5. The device of claim 4, wherein the specific information is a photo.

6. The device of claim 4, wherein the specific information is a video.

7. The device of claim 1, wherein the device is further cause to delay sending the message while updating the location information with geographical information about a nearby radio beacon.

8. The device of claim 1, wherein the device is further cause to collect geographical data for a nearby radio beacon and add the geographical data to the message prior to sending the message.

9. The device of claim 1, wherein the device is further cause to collect geographical data for a landmark, including the landmark'"'"'s name and a vector that represents distance and direction of the device from the landmark.

10. The device of claim 1, wherein the message is a text message.

11. A wireless device comprising:

a control module, wherein the control module determines location of the device and collects information about at least one available local wireless network in proximity to the device through at least one receiver; and

a memory module for storing information related to the local wireless network,

wherein the information is passed to a call handler in order to represents the wireless device as a landline location to the call handler.

12. The wireless device of claim 11, wherein the control module updates the information with geographical information about a landmark.

13. The wireless device of claim 12, wherein the geographical information about the landmark includes a vector having a distance and a direction of the wireless device relative to the landmark.

14. The wireless device of claim 11, wherein the information is a text message.

15. The wireless device of claim 11, wherein the information includes information about the type of service needed, which is at least one of medical and non-medical.

16. The wireless device of claim 11, wherein the wireless device further comprises a display in communication with the control module and a user accesses medical information through the display and the medical information, which is at least one of specific to the user and a situation, is included in the information.

17. A method comprising:

initiating a call using a device to determine location information for the device;

determining a plurality of geographical areas covered by a plurality of service providers;

comparing the plurality of geographical areas to the location information for the device to select at least one service provider from the plurality of service providers; and

selecting at least one service provider to handle the call.

18. The method of claim 17 further comprising the step of providing information about the type of service needed, which is at least one of medical and non-medical service.
