1. A method of creating a flexible staple line within the tissue of a patient comprising the steps of:

  • applying a first row of staples to the tissue in a first rotational orientation with respect to a first longitudinal axis;

    applying a second row of staples to the tissue in a second rotational orientation with respect to a second longitudinal axis, wherein the second rotational orientation is different than the first rotational orientation, and wherein the first rotational orientation and the second rotational orientation change when the tissue is stretched longitudinally;

    applying a third row of staples to the tissue in a third rotational orientation with respect to a third longitudinal axis; and

    transecting the tissue along the first row of staples.
