Abstract

A method and apparatus is disclosed for transferring digital content from a computing cloud to a computing device and generating recommendations for the user of the computing device.

Claims

1. A system for sharing content of a user between a server having one or more processors and a mobile device, the system comprising:

the server comprising a content store associated with the user and configured to store one or more user-uploaded content of the user;

the mobile device comprising;

a memory configured to store one or more content,

a display; and

a processor configured to control the display to present a list of content including the one or more content stored in the memory and the one or more user-uploaded content stored in the user-associated content store of the server,

wherein the processor is configured to control to request, in response to a user input, a user-uploaded content, among the one or more user-uploaded content stored in the user-associated content store of the server, and to control to download and store the requested user-uploaded content to the memory.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the one or more user-uploaded content stored in the user-associated content store of the server comprises content uploaded from the mobile device.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein at least one of the one or more user-uploaded content stored in the user-associated content store of the server is automatically uploaded by synchronization between the server and the mobile device.

4. The system of claim 1, further comprising:

another device of the user,

wherein at least one of the user-uploaded content stored in the user-associated content store of the server is automatically uploaded by synchronization between the server and the other device of the user.

5. The system of claim 3, wherein the synchronization between the server and the mobile device is performed as a background operation and occurs only when the mobile device is plugged into an external power source.

6. The system of claim 3, wherein the synchronization between the server and the mobile device is determined to be performed based on a type of communication link connecting the mobile device to the server.

7. The system of claim 6, wherein the synchronization is determined to be performed only if the type of communication link is a lowest cost network connecting the mobile device to the server.

8. The system of claim 3, wherein the synchronization is determined to be performed only if the type of communication link is a Wi-Fi network connecting the mobile device to the server.

9. The system of claim 1, wherein the one or more user-uploaded content comprises at least one of music, video, a podcast, a file, radio, and a photo.

10. The system of claim 1, wherein the presented list of content distinguishes the one or more content stored in the memory from user-uploaded content stored in the user-associated content store of the server and not stored in the memory.

11. The system of claim 1, wherein the one or more user-uploaded content stored in the user-associated content store of the server is uploaded over at least one of a cellular telephone network, over a WiFi network, and over a wireless data network.

21. A server for sharing content of a user with one or more devices of the user, the server comprising:

a communication unit;

a memory configured to store user-uploaded content in a content store associated with the user, the user-uploaded content comprising content uploaded by a first device of the user and content uploaded by a second device of the user; and

a processor configured to control the communication unit to transmit, to the second device, list information of the user-uploaded content including information of the content uploaded by the second device and information of the content uploaded by the first device and not stored in the second device,

wherein the processor is configured to control the communication unit to transmit, in response to a request by the second device for the content uploaded by the first device, the requested content to the second device.

22. The server of claim 21, wherein the content uploaded by the first device is automatically uploaded according to a synchronization setting between the first device and the server.

23. The server of claim 21, wherein the content uploaded by the second device is automatically uploaded according to a synchronization setting between the second device and the server.

24. The server of claim 21, wherein the processor is configured to transmit, to a third device, list information of content, among the user-uploaded content, selected by the user for sharing with the third device.

25. The server of claim 24, wherein the third device is a device of another user different from the user.

26. The server of claim 24, wherein the processor is configured to control the communication unit to transmit, in response to a request by the third device for the content selected by the user for sharing with the third device, the requested content to the third device.

27. The server of claim 21, wherein the list information further includes information of one or more content provided by a cloud-based service.

28. The server of claim 21, wherein the user-uploaded content comprises at least one of music, video, a podcast, a file, radio, and a photo.

29. The server of claim 21, wherein the processor is configured to control the communication unit to automatically transmit, to the second device according to a synchronization setting between the second device and the server, list information including information of content uploaded by the first device in response to uploading of the content by the first device.

30. A server for sharing content of a user with one or more devices of the user, the server comprising:

a communication unit;

a memory configured to store user-uploaded content in a content store associated with the user, the user-uploaded content comprising content uploaded by a first device of the user and content uploaded by a second device of the user; and

a processor configured to control the communication unit to transmit, to the second device, list information of the user-uploaded content including information of the content uploaded by the second device and information of the content uploaded by the first device and not stored in the second device,

wherein the processor is configured to control the communication unit to transmit, to the second device according to a synchronization setting between the second device and the server, list information including information of content uploaded by the first device in response to uploading of the content by the first device.

31. The server of claim 30, wherein the list information transmitted by the server is automatically transmitted according to the synchronization setting between the second device and the server.

32. The server of claim 31, wherein the synchronization between the server and the second device is performed as a background operation and occurs only when the second device is plugged into an external power source.

33. The sever of claim 31, wherein the synchronization between the server and the second device is determined to be performed based on a type of communication link connecting the second device to the server.

34. The sever of claim 33, wherein the synchronization is determined to be performed only if the type of communication link is a lowest cost network connecting the second device to the server.

35. The server of claim 30, wherein the synchronization is determined to be performed only if the type of communication link is a Wi-Fi network connecting the second device to the server.

36. The server of claim 30, wherein the one or more user-uploaded content comprises at least one of music, video, a podcast, a file, radio, and a photo.
