Abstract

Systems and methods for electronically providing coaching feedback to a user during an athletic activity are disclosed. The method may include receiving electronic data, collecting second electronic data, generating comparison electronic speed data by comparing the second electronic speed data to the first electronic speed data, prompting the user.

Claims

1. A method of electronically providing coaching feedback to a user during an athletic activity, the method comprising:

receiving first electronic speed data related to a previously completed running activity on a portable electronic device, the portable electronic device including a microprocessor, a display screen, a user input, a satellite positioning system receiver, a memory, and a wireless communication transceiver, the first electronic speed data being determined via the satellite positioning system receiver and being stored in the memory;

collecting second electronic speed data related to a running activity on the portable electronic device, the second electronic speed data being determined via the satellite positioning system receiver,

during the collecting second electronic speed data, generating comparison electronic speed data by comparing the second electronic speed data to the first electronic speed data;

generating an audio signal based on the comparison electronic speed data; and

audibly prompting the user with the generated audio signal.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the audibly prompting the user includes prompting the user to workout harder or easier.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the generating an audio signal includes a synthesized voice.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the generating an audio signal includes sound sequences that change based on the comparison electronic speed data.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

producing audible music during the collecting second electronic speed data; and

reducing a volume of the audible music during the audibly prompting the user.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the audibly prompting the user includes providing the second electronic speed data to the user.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the audibly prompting the user includes informing the user whether a measured heart rate is within a desired zone.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the receiving electronic speed data includes electronic speed data from multiple previously completed running activities.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the electronic speed data further includes a user distance, a user location, a user direction, or a user elevation.

10. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

visually prompting the user based on the comparison electronic speed data using the display screen.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the audibly prompting the user includes providing route information based on the comparison electronic speed data.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the route information includes one of route guidance, position, speed, distance, pace, or elevation.

13. A method of electronically providing coaching feedback to a user during an athletic activity, the method comprising:

collecting first electronic user performance data related to a first fitness activity on a first portable electronic device including a microprocessor, a display screen, a user input, a satellite positioning system receiver, a memory, and a wireless communication transceiver, the first electronic user performance data being stored in the first portable device memory and a remote memory,

receiving the first electronic user performance data on a second portable electronic device, the second portable electronic device including a microprocessor, a display screen, a user input, a satellite positioning system receiver, a memory, and a wireless communication transceiver;

collecting second electronic user performance data related to a second fitness activity on the second portable electronic device, the second electronic user performance data being stored in the second portable device memory and the remote memory;

receiving the second electronic user performance data on the first portable electronic device;

generating first comparison electronic data by comparing the second electronic user performance data to the first electronic user performance data;

generating a signal based on the first comparison electronic data; and

prompting a first user on the first portable electronic device with the generated signal.

14. The method of claim 13, further comprising:

during the collecting second electronic user performance data, prompting a second user on the second portable electronic device based on the first comparison electronic data.

15. The method of claim 13, wherein the first fitness activity and the second fitness activity occur simultaneously.

16. The method of claim 13, wherein the first fitness activity and the second fitness activity are one of running, cycling, swimming, and lifting.

17. The method of claim 13, wherein the receiving the second electronic user performance data on the first portable electronic device occurs after completion of the second fitness activity.

18. The method of claim 13, wherein the prompting the first user includes providing an audible message to prompt the first user to modify their performance during the first fitness activity.

19. A method of electronically providing coaching feedback to a user, the method comprising:

generating first electronic user position data related to a first running activity on a first portable electronic device including a microprocessor, a display screen, a user input, a satellite positioning system receiver, a memory, and a wireless communication transceiver, the first electronic user position data being stored in the first portable electronic device memory;

generating second electronic user position data related to a second running activity on a second portable electronic device including a microprocessor, a display screen, a user input, a satellite positioning system receiver, a memory, and a wireless communication transceiver, the second electronic user position data being stored in the second portable electronic device memory;

receiving the first electronic user position data on the second portable electronic device;

generating comparison electronic data during the generating second electronic user data by comparing the second electronic user position data to the first electronic user position data;

prompting the user on the second portable electronic device during the generating second electronic user data, based on the comparison electronic data.

20. The method of claim 19, wherein the receiving the first electronic user position data occurs after completion of the first running activity.
