Abstract

A method for increasing and optimizing the value of airport terminal exterior advertising is provided that significantly increases exposure of exterior advertising displays on the airside or non-public side of an airport terminal to passengers on arriving, parked, and departing aircraft. The movement of aircraft equipped with non-engine drive means on landing gear wheels for autonomous ground movement is controlled within an airport ramp area so that the aircraft moves in only a forward direction toward and away from a terminal parking place and parks in an orientation parallel to the terminal. The direction and orientation of aircraft ground travel and parking parallel to a terminal enhances and improves the visibility of exterior advertising displays to a maximum percentage of the passengers in the aircraft as the aircraft travels within the ramp area and parks between arrival and departure.

Claims

1. A method for increasing value of airport terminal exterior advertising comprising optimizing exposure of aircraft passengers to advertising messages or displays located on exterior surfaces of an airport terminal or structures adjacent to the airport terminal, wherein an aircraft carrying said passengers is driven autonomously and parked in an orientation relative to the airport terminal and adjacent structures selected to optimize visibility of the advertising messages or displays to a maximum percentage of passengers on the aircraft.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein said aircraft is driven autonomously and parked in an orientation selected so that a longest axis of the aircraft is parallel to one or more exterior surfaces displaying said advertising.

The method of claim 1, wherein said aircraft is driven in said orientation by non-engine drive means drivingly mounted on one or more nose or main landing gear wheels on said aircraft without reliance on operation of said aircraft main engines or external tow vehicles, and said drive means are controllable by a pilot of said aircraft to maneuver said aircraft into said orientation to optimize exposure of a maximum percentage of passengers on said aircraft to the advertising messages or displays.

The method of claim 3, wherein a plurality of aircraft landing and taking off at said airport are equipped with non-engine drive means controllable by a pilot of each of said plurality of aircraft to maneuver said aircraft into said orientation so that a maximum percentage of passengers on said plurality of aircraft are able to view the advertising messages or displays, thereby increasing passenger exposure to the advertising messages or displays and increasing value of exterior advertising to an airport.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein said exterior surfaces comprise exterior surface walls on an airside of the airport terminal.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein said exterior surfaces comprise an exterior surface of a passenger loading bridge selected to be readily visible to a maximum percentage of passengers on an aircraft with a view of the loading bridge exterior surface.

7. The method of claim 4, wherein said exterior surfaces comprise exterior surface walls on an airside or non-public side of said terminal.

The method of claim 1, wherein said exterior surfaces comprise any one or more of an airport terminal structure, an airport terminal-related structure, a structure attached to a terminal, a terminal structure where an aircraft parks to unload and load passengers, or a structure that an aircraft passes during ground travel with an exterior surface capable of supporting an advertising message or display.

9. The method of claim 1, further comprising providing an advertising message or display on said exterior surfaces relating to goods or services available for sale at the airport.

A method comprising increasing value of airport terminal exterior advertising for goods or services available in or near said airport terminal by increasing exposure of aircraft passengers to said advertising as one or more aircraft carrying passengers is driven by controllable non-engine drive means autonomously in only a forward direction within an airport ramp area in an orientation relative to messages or displays advertising said goods or services selected to optimize exposure to said messages or displays to a maximum percentage of said passengers.

The method of claim 10, further comprising driving said one or more aircraft by controllable non-engine drive means comprising an electric motor mounted within one or more aircraft nose or main landing gear wheels controllable to drive said aircraft autonomously in said forward direction without reliance on engines or tow vehicles in an orientation relative to the airport terminal and said messages or displays.

12. The method of claim 11, further comprising equipping a plurality of aircraft with said controllable non-engine drive means, thereby further optimizing exposure to said messages or displays.

13. The method of claim 10, further comprising applying said messages or displays to an exterior surface of an airport terminal or structures attached to an airport terminal on an air-side of the airport terminal.

14. The method of claim 13, further comprising driving each of said one or more aircraft in an orientation wherein a longest axis of said of each of said one or more aircraft is parallel to the airport terminal.

15. The method of claim 14, further comprising parking each of said one or more aircraft in said orientation at the airport terminal.
