Abstract

An apparatus for controlling start-up of a lane keeping assistance system (LKAS) which prevents lane departure of a first vehicle includes a detecting unit configured to detect a second vehicle which is traveling in a neighboring lane, a dividing line interposed between the first vehicle and the second vehicle, and a start-up controlling unit configured to determine a weighting factor based on a detection result of the detecting unit, change parameters which control a time point of the start-up of the LKAS based on the determined weighting factor, and control the time point of the start-up of the LKAS based on the changed parameters.

Claims

1. An apparatus for controlling start-up of a lane keeping assistance system (LKAS) which prevents a lane departure of a first vehicle, the apparatus comprising:

a detecting unit configured to detect an existence of a second vehicle which is traveling in a neighboring lane, a dividing line interposed between the first vehicle and the second vehicle; and

a start-up controlling unit configured to determine a weighting factor (α

) based on a detection result of the detecting unit, change parameters which control a time point of the start-up of the LKAS based on the determined weighting factor, and control the time point of the start-up of the LKAS based on the changed parameters.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the start-up controlling unit is configured to change the parameters including a first offset value (ε

) which represents a distance from the first vehicle to the dividing line, and a time to lane crossing (TTLC) which represents an expected time required for the first vehicle to arrive at the dividing line based on the first offset value (ε

) using the determined weighting factor (α

).

3. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein the start-up controlling unit is configured to perform an operation on the weighting factor (α

) and the first offset value (ε

) which is a real offset, and correct the first offset value (ε

) to a second offset value (ε

′

), and change the parameters based on the corrected second offset value (ε

′

).

4. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein the start-up controlling unit is configured to determine a first weighting factor (α

₁) when the second vehicle is not detected by the detecting unit, and determine a second weighting factor (α

₂) which is smaller than the first weighting factor (α

₁) when the second vehicle is detected by the detecting unit.

5. The apparatus of claim 4, wherein the start-up controlling unit is configured to determine the second weighting factor (α

₂) which is proportional to a distance from the first vehicle to the dividing line.

6. A method for controlling start-up of a lane keeping assistance system (LKAS), the method comprising:

detecting, by a first vehicle, an existence of a second vehicle which is traveling in a neighboring lane, a dividing line interposed between the first vehicle and the second vehicle;

determining a weighting factor (α

) based on whether the second vehicle exists;

changing parameters which control a time point of the start-up of the LKAS based on the determined weighting factor; and

controlling the time point of the start-up of the LKAS based on the changed parameters.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the controlling of the time point of the start-up of the LKAS includes changing the parameters including a first offset value (ε

) which represents a distance from the first vehicle to the dividing line, and a time to lane crossing (TTLC) which represents an expected time for the first vehicle required to arrive at the dividing line based on the first offset value (ε

) using the determined weighting factor (α

).

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the controlling of the time point of the start-up of the LKAS includes

performing an operation on the determined weighting factor (α

) and the first offset value (ε

) and correcting the first offset value (ε

) to a second offset value (ε

′

) (Cal Offset);

changing the parameters based on the corrected second offset value (ε

′

); and

controlling the time point of the start-up of the LKAS based on the changed parameters.

9. The method of claim 6, wherein the weighting factor (α

) includes a first weighting factor (α

₁) and a second weighting factor (α

₂) which is smaller than the first weighting factor (α

₁), and

the determining of the weighting factor includes;

determining the first weighting factor (α

₁) when the second vehicle is not detected by the first vehicle; and

determining the second weighting factor (α

₂) when the second vehicle is detected by the first vehicle.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the determining of the weighting factor includes determining the second weighting factor (α

₂) which is proportional to a distance from the first vehicle to the second vehicle.
