Abstract

A system and method for assembling segments of recorded music or video from among various versions or variations of a recording, into a new version or composition, such that a first segment of a first version of a recorded work is attached to a segment of a second segment of a second version of the recorded work, to create a new version of the recorded work.

19. A method comprising:

providing a video presentation comprising a plurality of predefined paths corresponding to different versions of a video, each predefined path comprising a plurality of seamlessly joined video segments, wherein a first one of the video segments comprises a decision period;

during playback of the first video segment and within the decision period;

providing a visual representation of an amount of time remaining in the decision period, and receiving a decision;

selecting, based on the decision, one of a subset of the video segments as a next video segment to play following the first video segment, each of the subset of video segments corresponding to a different one of the predefined paths; and

seamlessly presenting the next video segment following the first video segment.

20. The method of claim 19, wherein the seamlessly joined video segments comprise different scenes of the video presentation.

21. The method of claim 19, wherein at least one of the seamlessly joined video segments is included in two or more of the predefined paths.

22. The method of claim 19, wherein the decision period comprises a portion of playback time of the first video segment.

23. The method of claim 22, wherein the decision period comprises a predefined start time and a predefined end time within the playback time of the first video segment.

24. The method of claim 19, wherein the decision is one of received from a user and automatically determined.

25. The method of claim 19, further comprising presenting each of the video segments in a particular one of the predefined paths to provide a seamless version of the video.

26. The method of claim 19, further comprising providing, during playback of the first video segment and within the decision period, visual representations of one or more of the video segments in the subset.

27. The method of claim 26, further comprising removing from display one or more of the visual representations following an end of the decision period.

28. The method of claim 19, further comprising storing decisions made by a user at a plurality of decision points during playback of the video presentation.

29. The method of claim 28, further comprising making available the stored decisions of the user to other users.

30. A system comprising:

at least one memory for storing computer-executable instructions; and

at least one processor for executing the instructions stored on the at least one memory, wherein execution of the instructions programs the at least one processor to perform operations comprising;

providing a video presentation comprising a plurality of predefined paths corresponding to different versions of a video, each predefined path comprising a plurality of seamlessly joined video segments, wherein a first one of the video segments comprises a decision period;

during playback of the first video segment and within the decision period;

providing a visual representation of an amount of time remaining in the decision period, and receiving a decision;

selecting, based on the decision, one of a subset of the video segments as a next video segment to play following the first video segment, each of the subset of video segments corresponding to a different one of the predefined paths; and

seamlessly presenting the next video segment following the first video segment.

31. The system of claim 30, wherein the seamlessly joined video segments comprise different scenes of the video presentation.

32. The system of claim 30, wherein at least one of the seamlessly joined video segments is included in two or more of the predefined paths.

33. The system of claim 30, wherein the decision period comprises a portion of playback time of the first video segment.

34. The system of claim 33, wherein the decision period comprises a predefined start time and a predefined end time within the playback time of the first video segment.

35. The system of claim 30, wherein the decision is one of received from a user and automatically determined.

36. The system of claim 30, wherein the operations further comprise presenting each of the video segments in a particular one of the predefined paths to provide a seamless version of the video.

37. The system of claim 30, wherein the operations further comprise providing, during playback of the first video segment and within the decision period, visual representations of one or more of the video segments in the subset.

38. The system of claim 37, wherein the operations further comprise removing from display one or more of the visual representations following an end of the decision period.

39. The system of claim 30, wherein the operations further comprise storing decisions made by a user at a plurality of decision points during playback of the video presentation.

40. The system of claim 39, wherein the operations further comprise making available the stored decisions of the user to other users.
