Abstract

Performance parameters of a vehicle can be measured by an on-board performance parameter measuring device. The performance parameters can be measured while the vehicle is being used. The measured performance parameters of the vehicle can be transmitted to a computing device. The computing device can be configured to generate a user cost that reflects a cost for insuring the vehicle based on the measured performance parameters of the vehicle. A graphical user interface can be generated by the computing device for presentation to a user via a display device, that graphical user interface can include the user cost. An alternative transportation route for the journey and an alternative transportation cost for the journey can be determined and presented to the user through the graphical user interface.

Claims

1. A method to be performed by at least one computer processor forming at least a part of a computing system, the method comprising:

measuring, by a vehicle performance measuring device, performance parameters of a vehicle while the vehicle is being used;

transmitting, over a network, the measured performance parameters of the vehicle to a computing device;

generating, using the computing device, a user cost, the user cost reflecting a cost for insuring the vehicle based on the measured performance parameters of the vehicle;

generating, using the computing device, a graphical user interface for presentation to a user via a display device, the graphical user interface including the user cost; and

,

presenting, on the display device, the graphical user interface to the user.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving, through the graphical user interface, journey information for the user;

generating, using the computing device, a user cost for the journey based on historical performance parameters of the vehicle, the user cost reflecting the cost for insuring the vehicle during the journey; and

,

presenting, on the display device, the user cost for the journey to the user via the graphical user interface.

3. The method of claim 2, further comprising:

determining, using the computing device, an alternative transportation route for the journey;

generating, using the computing device, an alternative transportation cost for the journey;

presenting, on the display device, the alternative transportation cost for the journey via the graphical user interface.

4. The method of claim 3, further comprising:

determining, using the computing device, a difference between the user cost and the alternative transportation cost for the journey; and

,

presenting, on the display device, an indication of the difference between the user cost and the alternative transportation cost for the journey to the user via the graphical user interface.

5. The method of claim 3, further comprising:

receiving, through an interaction by the user with the graphical user interface, a selection of the alternative transportation route; and

,

purchasing, by the computing device, one or more tickets for the user to take the alternative transportation route.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the user cost further reflects a cost of power usage of the vehicle.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the user cost further reflects a cost of wear and tear of the vehicle.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the performance parameters of the vehicle include a distance driven by the vehicle.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the performance parameters of the vehicle include one or more of an acceleration of the vehicle, a deceleration of the vehicle, and a g-force experienced by the vehicle.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the performance parameters of the vehicle include a speed of the vehicle.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the performance parameters of the vehicle include a location of the vehicle during usage of the vehicle.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein the performance parameters of the vehicle include one or more of a time of day, a day of the week, or a date, of usage of the vehicle.

13. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving, at the computing device, road condition information associated with the usage of the vehicle; and

wherein the user cost is based on the road condition information.

14. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

presenting, via the graphical user interface, a balance of funds of the user; and

,

deducting, from the balance of funds, the user cost.

15. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

generating an invoice for the user cost to send to the user.

16. A system comprising:

a data processor; and

,

an electronic storage device configured to store machine-readable instructions which when processed by the data processor cause the data processor to perform one or more operations, the operations comprising;

measuring, by a data processor of a vehicle performance measuring device, performance parameters of a vehicle while the vehicle is being used;

transmitting, over a network, the measured performance parameters of the vehicle to a computing device;

generating, using the computing device, a user cost, the user cost reflecting a cost for insuring the vehicle based on the measured performance parameters of the vehicle;

generating, using the computing device, a graphical user interface for presentation to a user via a display device, the graphical user interface including the user cost; and

,

presenting, on the display device, the graphical user interface to the user.

17. The system of claim 16, wherein the operations further comprise:

receiving, through the graphical user interface, journey information for the user;

generating, using the computing device, a user cost for the journey based on historical performance parameters of the vehicle, the user cost reflecting the cost for insuring the vehicle during the journey; and

,

presenting, on the display device, the user cost for the journey to the user via the graphical user interface.

18. The system of claim 17, wherein the operations further comprise:

determining, using the computing device, an alternative transportation route for the journey;

generating, using the computing device, an alternative transportation cost for the journey;

presenting, on the display device, the alternative transportation cost for the journey via the graphical user interface.

19. The system of claim 18, wherein the operations further comprise:

determining, using the computing device, a difference between the user cost and the alternative transportation cost for the journey; and

,

presenting, on the display device, an indication of the difference between the user cost and the alternative transportation cost for the journey to the user via the graphical user interface.

20. The system of claim 18, wherein the operations further comprise:

receiving, through an interaction by the user with the graphical user interface, a selection of the alternative transportation route; and

,

purchasing, by the computing device, one or more tickets for the user to take the alternative transportation route.

21. The system of claim 16, wherein the user cost further reflects a cost of power usage of the vehicle.

22. The system of claim 16, wherein the user cost further reflects a cost of wear and tear of the vehicle.

23. The system of claim 16, wherein the performance parameters of the vehicle include a distance driven by the vehicle.

24. The system of claim 16, wherein the performance parameters of the vehicle include one or more of an acceleration of the vehicle, a deceleration of the vehicle, and a g-force experienced by the vehicle.

25. The system of claim 16, wherein the performance parameters of the vehicle include a speed of the vehicle.

26. The system of claim 16, wherein the performance parameters of the vehicle include a location of the vehicle during usage of the vehicle.

27. The system of claim 16, wherein the operations further comprise:

receiving, at the computing device, road condition information associated with the usage of the vehicle; and

wherein the user cost is based on the road condition information.

28. The system of claim 16, wherein the operations further comprise:

receiving, at the computing device, one or more of a time of day, a day of the week, or a date of the usage of the vehicle.

29. The system of claim 16, wherein the operations further comprise:

presenting, via the graphical user interface, a balance of funds of the user; and

,

deducting, from the balance of funds, the user cost.

30. The system of claim 16, wherein the operations further comprise:

generating an invoice for the user cost to send to the user.

31. A non-transitory computer program product storing instructions that, when executed by at least one programmable processor forming part of at least one computing system, cause the at least one programmable processor to perform operations comprising:

measuring, by a vehicle performance measuring device, performance parameters of a vehicle while the vehicle is being used;

transmitting, over a network, the measured performance parameters of the vehicle to a computing device;

generating, using the computing device, a user cost, the user cost reflecting a cost for insuring the vehicle based on the measured performance parameters of the vehicle;

generating, using the computing device, a graphical user interface for presentation to a user via a display device, the graphical user interface including the user cost; and

,

presenting, on the display device, the graphical user interface to the user.
