Abstract

What is described is a system for estimating a ripple component of an input signal. The system includes a first module configured to remove a direct current (DC) component from the input signal and output an alternating current (AC) signal that includes the ripple component and a low frequency component of the input signal. The system also includes a second module configured to determine a period and an amplitude of the AC signal and output an estimated ripple signal based on the period and the amplitude of the AC signal.

Claims

1. A system for estimating a ripple component of an input signal, the system comprising:

a first module configured to remove a direct current (DC) component from the input signal and output an alternating current (AC) signal that includes the ripple component and a low frequency component of the input signal; and

a second module configured to determine a period and an amplitude of the AC signal and output an estimated ripple signal based on the period and the amplitude of the AC signal.

2. The system of claim 1, further comprising a third module configured to convert an analog input signal to the input signal.

3. The system of claim 2, wherein the analog input signal is output by a rectifier.

4. The system of claim 3, wherein the rectifier is a transformer rectifier unit.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein the first module includes a low pass filter configured to output the DC component and a subtractor configured to subtract the DC component from the input signal to generate the AC signal.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein the first module includes a high pass filter configured to output the AC signal.

7. The system of claim 1, wherein the second module includes a zero-cross module configured to determine locations in which a value of the input signal is zero.

8. The system of claim 1, wherein the second module includes a max detection module configured to determine a maximum value of the AC signal for the period of the AC signal.

9. The system of claim 1, wherein the second module includes a min detection module configured to determine a minimum value of the AC signal for the period of the AC signal.

10. The system of claim 1, wherein the system is implemented on a single controller.

11. A system for estimating a ripple component of an analog input signal, the system comprising:

a first module configured to convert the analog input signal to a digital input signal, the analog input signal comprising the ripple component, a direct current (DC) component and a low frequency component;

a second module configured to remove the DC component from the digital input signal and output an alternating current (AC) signal including the ripple component and the low frequency component;

a third module configured to determine locations at which the AC signal has a zero-value, a maximum value of the AC signal and a minimum value of the AC signal; and

a fourth module configured to determine an estimated ripple signal based on the locations at which the AC signal has zero-crossings, the maximum value of the AC signal and the minimum value of the AC signal.

12. The system of claim 11, wherein the third module is configured to determine the maximum value of the AC signal and the minimum value of the AC signal for every period of the AC signal.

13. The system of claim 11, wherein the analog input signal is generated by a rectifier.

14. The system of claim 13, wherein the rectifier is a transformer rectifier unit.

15. The system of claim 11, wherein the second module includes a low pass filter configured to output the DC component and a subtractor configured to subtract the DC component from the digital input signal to generate the AC signal.
