Abstract

Disclosed is a mobile terminal including: a display unit; a touch sensor configured to sense a tap applied to the display unit; and a controller configured to control at least one of functions executable in the mobile terminal when a tap corresponding to a pre-set scheme is applied to the display unit, wherein the touch sensor is formed to sense the tap by using different schemes in an activated state or deactivated state of the display unit.

15. A mobile terminal comprising:

a display unit;

a touch sensor configured to sense a tap applied to the display unit; and

a controller configured to control at least one of functions executable in the mobile terminal when a pre-set type of tap is applied to the display unit,

wherein in a deactivated state of the display unit, the touch sensor is driven at a first period to sense the tap, and in a activated state of the display unit, the touch sensor is driven at a second period different from the first period to sense the tap, and

when the touch sensor activated at the first period senses a first tap and a second tap continuously applied to the display unit within a limited time, the controller activates the deactivated display unit and activates the touch sensor at the second period.

The mobile terminal of claim 15, wherein when the touch sensor activated at the second period senses a third tap and a fourth tap continuously applied to the activated display unit within the limited time, the controller deactivates the activated display unit and activates the touch sensor at the first period.

17. The mobile terminal of claim 15, wherein, the function executed according to sensing of the pre-set type of tap is switching of the display unit between an activated state and a deactivated state.

18. The mobile terminal of claim 15, further comprising:

a proximity sensor configured to sense an object positioned within a reference distance from the display unit,

wherein when the proximity sensor senses the object in the deactivated state of the display unit, the touch sensor is deactivated.

19. The mobile terminal of claim 15, wherein when the touch sensor continuously senses taps greater than a reference number, the controller does not execute at least one of the executable functions.

20. The mobile terminal of claim 15, wherein when a partial region of the entire region of the display unit is covered by a case, the touch sensor is activated by differentiating between a region covered by the case and a region not covered by the case.

The mobile terminal of claim 20, wherein in a state in which the touch sensor is activated by differentiating between the region covered by the case and the region not covered by the case, when a pre-set type of tap is applied to the activated region, the controller activates only the region of the display unit not covered by the case.

22. A mobile terminal comprising:

a display unit;

a touch sensor configured to sense a touch input applied to the display unit; and

a controller configured to control at least one of functions executable in the terminal when a pre-set type of tap is applied to the display unit,

wherein in a deactivated state of the display unit, the touch sensor is driven at a period different from a activated state of the display unit, in order to sense the tap in the deactivated state of the display unit, is activated at a first period in the deactivated state of the display unit, and is activated at a second period different from the first period in the activated state of the display unit, and

when the touch sensor activated at the first period senses a first tap and a second tap continuously applied to the display unit within a limited time, the controller activates the deactivated display unit and activates the touch sensor at the second period.

The mobile terminal of claim 22, wherein when the touch sensor activated at the second period senses a third tap and a fourth tap continuously applied to the activated display unit within the limited time, the controller deactivates the activated display unit and activates the touch sensor at the first period.

24. The mobile terminal of claim 22, wherein, the function executed according to sensing of the pre-set type of tap is switching of the display unit between an activated state and a deactivated state.

25. The mobile terminal of claim 22, wherein when a partial region of the entire region of the display unit is covered by a case, the touch sensor is activated by differentiating between a region covered by the case and a region not covered by the case.
