Abstract

Gaming systems and methods for customizing game play on a gaming machine with custom media are described herein. The gaming machine includes a cabinet, a display, a user input mechanism, an interface configured to wirelessly communicate with a portable electronic device controlled by a player, and a game controller. The game controller is configured to provide a default game play session of a wager-based game, facilitate a data connection between the gaming machine and the portable electronic device through the interface, and receive custom game media and customization settings. The game controller is further configured to store the custom game media and customization settings and to provide a customized game play session of the wager-based game according to the customization settings and the custom game media.

Claims

1. A gaming system comprising:

at least one display device;

at least one input device;

at least one processor; and

at least one memory device which stores a plurality of instructions, which when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to operate with the at least one display device and the at least one input device to;

(a) if data associated with a customization setting is wirelessly received from a mobile device, display a first play of a wagering game utilizing the customization settings wirelessly received from the mobile device, and

(b) if no data associated with the customization setting is received from the mobile device, display a second, different play of the wagering game utilizing a default setting.

2. The gaming system of claim 1, wherein if a request to pair the mobile device is received and a designated application is not installed on the mobile device, display an instruction to download the designated application to the mobile device.

3. The gaming system of claim 2, wherein the displayed instruction includes a machine readable code.

4. The gaming system of claim 1, wherein when executed by the at least one processor, the plurality of instructions cause the at least one processor to associate the customization setting with a player account of a player.

5. The gaming system of claim 1, wherein when executed by the at least one processor, the plurality of instructions cause the at least one processor to revert to the default setting upon a determination to cease utilizing the customization setting.

The gaming system of claim 1, which includes an acceptor, and a cashout device, wherein when executed by the at least one processor, the plurality of instructions cause the at least one processor to, if a physical item is received via the acceptor, establish a credit balance based, at least in part, on a monetary value associated with the received physical item, and if a cashout input is received via the cashout device, cause an initiation of any payout associated with the credit balance.

7. A gaming system server comprising:

at least one processor; and

at least one memory device which stores a plurality of instructions, which when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to;

(a) if data associated with a customization setting is wirelessly received from a mobile device, cause at least one display device to display a first play of a wagering game utilizing the customization settings wirelessly received from the mobile device, and

(b) if no data associated with the customization setting is received from the mobile device, cause the at least one display device to display a second, different play of the wagering game utilizing a default setting.

8. The gaming system server of claim 7, wherein if a request to pair the mobile device is received and a designated application is not installed on the mobile device, display an instruction to download the designated application to the mobile device.

9. The gaming system server of claim 8, wherein the displayed instruction includes a machine readable code.

10. The gaming system server of claim 7, wherein when executed by the at least one processor, the plurality of instructions cause the at least one processor to associate the customization setting with a player account of a player.

11. The gaming system server of claim 7, wherein when executed by the at least one processor, the plurality of instructions cause the at least one processor to revert to the default setting upon a determination to cease utilizing the customization setting.

12. The gaming system server of claim 7, wherein a credit balance is increasable based on any determined award associated with the play of the wagering game, said credit balance being increasable via an acceptor of a physical item associated with a monetary value, and said credit balance being decreasable via a cashout device.

13. A method of operating a gaming system, said method comprising:

(a) if data associated with a customization setting is wirelessly received from a mobile device, causing at least one display device to display a first play of a wagering game utilizing the customization settings wirelessly received from the mobile device, and

(b) if no data associated with the customization setting is received from the mobile device, causing the at least one display device to display a second, different play of the wagering game utilizing a default setting.

14. The method of claim 13, which includes, if a request to pair the mobile device is received and a designated application is not installed on the mobile device, causing the at least one display device to display an instruction to download the designated application to the mobile device.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein the displayed instruction includes a machine readable code.

16. The method of claim 13, which includes causing at least one processor to execute a plurality of instructions to associate the customization setting with a player account of a player.

17. The method of claim 13, which includes causing at least one processor to execute a plurality of instructions to revert to the default setting upon a determination to cease utilizing the customization setting.

18. The method of claim 13, wherein a credit balance is increasable based on any determined award associated with the play of the wagering game, said credit balance being increasable via an acceptor of a physical item associated with a monetary value, and said credit balance being decreasable via a cashout device.
