Abstract

Techniques and devices are disclosed for efficient offloading and/or aggregation of resources by providing different levels of connection management in a network. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) may support additional ECM and/or RRC states (e.g. inactive states) and/or transitions that may enable a WTRU to act without an RRC connection and/or with reduced latency. A WTRU may operate with network resources with and/or without radio resources. A WTRU may operate in parallel with a plurality of layers, including a primary layer for which the WTRU may behave according to LTE or other behavior. The WTRU may be configured for operation in a secondary layer. The WTRU may establish a secondary layer security context and/or a tunnel or routing for the secondary layer for transport of user plane data between the WTRU and a gateway. The WTRU may determine to which layer uplink data may be applicable.

Claims

26. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), comprising:

a receiver, the receiver configured to;

receive a configuration for accessing a radio access network (RAN), the configuration including an identity and one or more parameters associated with the identity; and

receive a reference signal;

a processor, the processor configured to;

perform one or more measurements on the reference signal;

perform an access selection using at least the identity and the one or more parameters; and

initiate an access to the RAN via an uplink transmission using at least the one or more parameters; and

a transmitter, the transmitter configured to;

send the uplink transmission to the RAN.

27. The WTRU of claim 26, wherein the configuration corresponds to one or more cells associated with the RAN.

28. The WTRU of claim 26, wherein the performing the access selection further includes using the one or more measurements.

29. The WTRU of claim 26, wherein the one or more parameters include at least one of:

a random access parameter, a contention-based access parameter, or one or more physical layer configuration parameters.

30. The WTRU of claim 29, wherein the one or more physical layer configuration parameters include at least one of:

a physical layer resource parameter, a power setting parameter, or a physical channel configuration parameter.

31. The WTRU of claim 26, wherein the one or more parameters include at least one of:

a security-related parameter, or a routing area parameter.

32. The WTRU of claim 27, wherein the receiver is further configured such that the configuration is received via at least one of:

dedicated signaling, or broadcast signaling associated with at least one of the one or more cells.

33. The WTRU of claim 26, wherein the processor is further configured such that the access selection is performed based on one or more triggers.

34. The WTRU, of claim 27, wherein the processor is further configured to initiate a presence notification in at least one cell of the one or more cells.

35. The WTRU of claim 26, wherein the initiating the access to the RAN is a first access initiation, and the processor is further configured to generate an indication of one or more capabilities of the WTRU.

36. The WTRU of claim 27, wherein the initiating the access to the RAN is a first access initiation, and the receiver is further configured to receive a reconfiguration message from at least one of the one or more cells.

37. The WTRU of claim 26, wherein the receiver is further configured such that the uplink transmission is at least one of one or more types of transmissions.

38. A method performed by a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), the method comprising:

receiving, via a receiver, a configuration for accessing a radio access network (RAN), the configuration including an identity and one or more parameters associated with the identity;

receiving, via the receiver, a reference signal;

performing one or more measurements on the reference signal;

performing an access selection using at least the identity and the one or more parameters; and

initiating an access to the RAN via an uplink transmission using at least the one or more parameters; and

sending, via a transmitter, the uplink transmission to the RAN.

39. The method of claim 38, wherein the configuration corresponds to one or more cells associated with the RAN.

40. The method of claim 38, wherein the performing the access selection further includes using the one or more measurements.

41. The method of claim 38, wherein the one or more parameters include at least one of:

a random access parameter, a contention-based access parameter, one or more physical layer configuration parameters, a security-related parameter, or a routing area parameter.

42. The method of claim 41, wherein the one or more physical layer configuration parameters include at least one of:

a physical layer resource parameter, a power setting parameter, or a physical channel configuration parameter.

43. The method of claim 39, wherein the initiating the access to the RAN is a first access initiation, and the method further comprises:

generating an indication of one or more capabilities of the WTRU; and

receiving a reconfiguration message from at least one of the one or more cells.

44. The method of claim 39, further comprising initiating a presence notification in at least one cell of the one or more cells.

45. The method of claim 38, wherein the performing the access selection is based on one or more triggers.
