HOLLOW BODY ANCHOR
First Claim
1. A suture anchor designed to be secure within a recess prepared in bone, said recess (i) extending inwardly from an exposed surface of the bone, (ii) comprising a cylindrical hole extending inwardly from the exposed surface to a base and surrounding a bone core extending from the base toward the exposed surface of the bone, and (iii) defining an inner bone surface and an outer bone surface, said suture anchor comprising an anchor body having an open top, an open bottom, a cylindrical wall generally extending from the open top to the open bottom and defining an inner engagement surface surrounding a channel and an outer engagement surface, wherein the suture anchor body is adapted to permit at least a portion of the cylindrical wall to be inserted into the cylindrical hole of the recess such that the bone core resides in the channel, the outer engagement surface engages the outer bone surface of the recess and the inner engagement surface engages the inner bone surface.

Abstract
Attachment of sutures to bone is achieved by forming a recess in the bone having a cylindrical channel surrounding a bone core and then inserting a hollow anchor body into the recess and over the bone core. Suture material is attached using openings in the anchor body and the suture material may be pinched between the inside and outside surfaces of the anchor body and the bone material.

12. For anchoring at least one suture to a bone, a kit comprising
(a) a recess forming tool adapted to form a recess in a bone, said recess comprising a cylindrical hole extending inwardly from an exposed surface of the bone to a base and surrounding a bone core having an inner bone surface extending from the base toward the exposed surface of the bone, said recess further comprising an outer bone surface surrounding the cylindrical hole; -
(b) at least one suture member; (c) a suture anchor comprising an anchor body having an open top, an open bottom, a cylindrical wall extending from the open top to the open bottom and defining an inner engagement surface surrounding a channel and an outer engagement surface, wherein the anchor body is adapted to permit at least a portion of the cylindrical wall to be inserted into the cylindrical hole of the recess such that the bone core resides in the channel, the outer engagement surface engages the outer bone surface of the recess, and the inner engagement surfaces engages the inner bone surface; and (d) an insertion tool adapted to be coupled to the suture anchor for insertion of at least a portion of the cylindrical body into the recess and then decoupled from the suture anchor. - View Dependent Claims (13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19)

20. A method for anchoring a suture member to a bone at an anchor point comprising the steps of:
-
a. forming a recess in an exposed surface of the bone, said recess having a cylindrical hole extending into the bone from the exposed surface to a base, said cylindrical hole defining an outer bone surface and also defining a bone core defining an inner bone surface projecting from the base toward the exposed surface, said bone core surrounded by said cylindrical hole; b. providing an anchor body having an open top, an open bottom, and a cylindrical wall extending between the open top and open bottom, said cylindrical wall defining (i) an inner engagement surface surrounding a channel in communication with the open top and open bottom and (ii) an outer engagement surface; c. providing at least one suture member adapted to be coupled to said anchor body; d. inserting the anchor body and at least one suture member within the cylindrical hole such that the inner engagement surface engages the inner bone surface and the outer engagement surface engages the outer bone surface, and the suture member includes a first portion pinched between the inner engagement surface and the inner bone surface and a second portion pinched between the outer engagement surface and the outer bone surface.
