Abstract

Extension activation may be provided. Upon receiving a new document associated with a plurality of related documents, extension trigger conditions may be evaluated. In response to determining that an extension trigger is satisfied, a user interface element associated with the extension trigger may be displayed.

21. A method for providing application extension activation, the method comprising:

displaying an item corresponding to each of a plurality of related documents in a list of items;

receiving a new document associated with the plurality of related documents and displaying a new item corresponding to the new document in the list of items;

determining that at least one of a plurality of extension trigger conditions is satisfied by metadata associated with the new document;

in response to determining that the at least one extension trigger condition is satisfied by the metadata associated with the new document, displaying an entry-point user interface (UI) element on the new item corresponding to the new document in the list of items, wherein display of the entry-point UI element indicates that the at least one extension trigger condition is satisfied by the metadata associated with the new document; and

in response to receiving a selection of the new item corresponding to the new document in the list of items, displaying the new document including a user interface element representing an application extension associated with the at least one extension trigger condition.

22. The method of claim 21, wherein each extension trigger condition of the plurality of extension trigger conditions has a relative priority.

23. The method of claim 22, the method further comprising:

determining that at least two of the plurality of extension trigger conditions are satisfied by the metadata associated with the new document;

identifying a highest priority extension trigger condition from among the at least two extension trigger conditions; and

displaying the new document including a user interface element representing an application extension associated with the highest-priority extension trigger condition.

24. The method of claim 21, wherein the plurality of related documents comprises a plurality of email messages.

25. The method of claim 21, wherein the plurality of related documents comprises different document types.

26. The method of claim 21, wherein the plurality of related documents is associated with a common project.

27. The method of claim 21, wherein the plurality of related documents comprises a plurality of web pages associated by a plurality of hyperlinks.

28. The method of claim 21, further comprising displaying the user interface element proximate to the new document.

29. The method of claim 21, further comprising displaying the user interface element inside a user interface frame associated with the new document.

30. A computer system for providing application extension activation, comprising:

a processor; and

a memory storing computer-executable instructions that when executed by the processor cause the computer system to;

display an item corresponding to each of a plurality of related documents in a list of items;

receive a new document associated with the plurality of related documents and display a new item corresponding to the new document in the list of items;

determine that at least two of a plurality of extension trigger conditions are satisfied by metadata associated with the new document;

in response to determining that the at least two extension trigger conditions are satisfied by the metadata associated with the new document, display an entry-point user interface (UI) element on the new item corresponding to the new document in the list of items, wherein display of the entry-point UI element indicates that the at least two extension trigger conditions are satisfied by the metadata associated with the new document;

identify a highest-priority extension trigger condition from among the at least two extension trigger conditions; and

in response to receiving a selection of the new item corresponding to the new document in the list of items, display the new document including a user interface element representing an application extension associated with the highest-priority extension trigger condition.

31. The computer system of claim 30, wherein displaying the user interface element further comprises:

display a user interface frame comprising a name of the application extension and a number corresponding to the at least two extension trigger conditions that are satisfied by the metadata.

32. The computer system of claim 30, wherein determining that the at least two extension trigger conditions are satisfied comprises:

identify, based on a manifest file associated with the plurality of extension trigger conditions, a portion of metadata associated with the new document; and

determine, based at least in part on the determined portion, that the at least two extension trigger conditions are satisfied.

33. The computer system of claim 30, wherein the plurality of related documents comprises a plurality of email messages.

34. The computer system of claim 30, wherein the plurality of related documents comprises a plurality of web pages associated by a plurality of hyperlinks.

35. The computer system of claim 30, the computer-executable instructions further causing the computer system to:

modify at least one of the plurality of extension trigger conditions based on evaluating user interaction, wherein user interaction comprises at least one of;

activation of an application extension and making a change to an application extension.

36. The computer system of claim 35, wherein modifying the at least one extension trigger condition comprises updating a priority of the at least one extension trigger condition.

37. The computer system of claim 36, wherein updating the priority of the at least one extension trigger condition causes display of a user interface element associated with at least one other application extension.

38. A computer storage device comprising computer-executable instructions that when executed by a processor cause a computer system to:

display an item corresponding to each of a plurality of related documents in a list of items;

determine that at least one of a plurality of extension trigger conditions is satisfied by metadata associated with at least one of the plurality of related documents;

in response to determining that the at least one extension trigger condition is satisfied by the metadata associated with the at least one document, displaying an entry-point user interface (UI) element on the item corresponding to the at least one document in the list of items, wherein display of the entry-point UI element indicates that the at least one extension trigger condition is satisfied by the metadata associated with the at least one document; and

in response to receiving a selection of the item corresponding to the at least one document in the list of items, displaying the at least one document including a user interface element representing an application extension associated with the at least one extension trigger condition.

39. The computer storage device of claim 38, wherein each extension trigger condition of the plurality of extension trigger conditions has a relative priority.

40. The computer storage device of claim 39, the computer-executable instructions further causing the computer system to:

determine that at least two of the plurality of extension trigger conditions are satisfied by the metadata associated with the at least one document;

identify a highest priority extension trigger condition from among the at least two extension trigger conditions; and

display the at least one document including a user interface element representing an application extension associated with the highest-priority extension trigger condition.
