Abstract

Systems and methods relating to wirelessly transmitting athletic data, including personal fitness devices, to a display are provided. Embodiments relate to non-connectable advertising, such as using wireless advertising beacons, to transmit athletic data. Certain embodiments include using BTLE in non-connectable advertising modes to transmit data. Athletic data may be displayed by a display device observable by several users. Further embodiments utilize the data is coaching users of a group.

Claims

1. An electronic device comprising:

a processor;

a transceiver configured to wirelessly receive electronic information via a direct connection with a second electronic device using a transmission protocol that can perform at least one of;

transmitting an advertising beacon that identifies the transceiver as associated with the electronic device;

or

receiving an advertising beacon that identifies a second transceiver as associated with a second electronic device,

wherein identification of an advertising beacon is utilized in an establishment of a direct connection between the electronic device and the second electronic device; and

a computer-readable medium comprising computer-executable instructions that when executed by the processor perform at least;

receiving a first advertising beacon from a second electronic device associated with a first user and obtaining an athletic attribute from the first user from the advertising beacon without establishing a direct connection with the second electronic device; and

receiving a second advertising beacon from a third electronic device associated with a second user and obtaining an athletic attribute from the second user from the second advertising beacon without establishing a direct connection with the second electronic device;

determining to display at least one of the athletic attributes; and

displaying the at least one attribute received via the on a display.

2. The device of claim 1, wherein the reception of the first advertising beacon and the second advertising beacon are received during a first time frame, and wherein the computer-readable medium further comprises computer-executable instructions that when executed, cause the processor to at least:

establish a direct connection with a fourth electronic device using the same transmission protocol.

3. The device of claim 2, wherein the computer-readable medium further comprises computer-executable instructions that when executed, cause the processor to at least:

receive electronic information from the fourth electronic device via the direct connection over the transmission protocol comprising instructions to display at least a portion of the at least athletic attribute.

4. The device of claim 2, wherein the computer-readable medium further comprises computer-executable instructions that when executed, cause the processor to at least:

receive electronic information from the fourth electronic device via the direct connection over the transmission protocol comprising instructions to display an athletic attribute of a specific user associated with at least one of the first or the second advertising beacon.

5. The device of claim 1, wherein at least a portion of the at least one athletic attribute received from the first advertising beacon is determined by a setting on the second electronic device.

6. The device of claim 4, wherein at least a portion of the at least athletic attribute received from the first advertising beacon is determined by a setting on the fourth electronic device.

7. The device of claim 1, wherein the determining to display at least one of the athletic attributes comprises:

determining that a value of a first athletic attribute received from the first advertising beacon is better than a value of the first athletic attribute received from the second advertising beacon.

The device of claim 1, wherein the first advertising beacon is received from the second electronic device at the same time that the second electronic device has a direct connection to a fifth electronic device via the transmission protocol, wherein the direct connection is not broken as a result of the reception of the first advertising beacon.

9. An electronic device comprising:

a transceiver configured to wirelessly transmit athletic data using a first protocol, the protocol configured to permit a direct connection between the first and a second electronic device after transmitting an advertising beacon that identifies the transceiver as associated with the electronic device;

a processor; and

a computer-readable medium comprising computer-executable instructions that when executed by the processor perform at least;

activating a non-connectable advertising mode of the transceiver to enable the transceiver to wirelessly transmit an advertising beacon using the first protocol to enable the transceiver for a duration of time regardless if it establishes a direct connection to the second electronic device or any other electronic device;

transmitting electronic information via the advertising beacon that comprises at least one athletic attribute such that the at least one athletic attribute is transmitted regardless if the transceiver of the electronic device is direct connected to the second electronic device or any other electronic device using the first protocol.

determining to display at least one of the athletic attributes; and

displaying the at least one attribute received via the on a display.

10. The device of claim 9, wherein the transmission of the advertising beacon is during a first time frame, and wherein the computer-readable medium further comprises computer-executable instructions that when executed, cause the processor to at least:

establish a direct connection with a third electronic device using the same transmission protocol.

11. The device of claim 10, wherein the computer-readable medium further comprises computer-executable instructions that when executed, cause the processor to at least:

receive electronic information from the third electronic device via the direct connection over the first protocol comprising instructions to display at least a portion of the at least athletic attribute.

12. The device of claim 9, wherein at least a portion of the at least one athletic attribute received from the advertising beacon is determined by a setting on the device.

13. The device of claim 9, wherein at least a portion of the at least athletic attribute received from the first advertising beacon is determined by a setting on the second electronic device.
