Abstract

The present invention refers to a pharmaceutical composition for use in the treatment of a neurodegenerative disease.

Claims

1. :

A method for treating Parkinson'"'"'s disease in a patient in need thereof, comprising

administering to said patient a therapeutically effective amount of a pharmaceutical composition comprising desPro³⁶Exendin-4(1-39)-Lys₆-NH₂ (“

lixisenatide”

) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and

optionally a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, adjuvant, auxiliary substance or a combination thereof.

The method according to claim 1, wherein the lixisenatide or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof is administered parenterally.

The method according to claim 1, wherein the lixisenatide or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof is administered in a daily dose selected from the range of 10 μ

g to 20 μ

g.

The method according to claim 1, wherein the Parkinson'"'"'s disease is associated with oxidative stress, inflammatory response, apoptosis and/or neuronal loss.

5. :

The method of claim 4, wherein the neuronal loss is a loss of dopaminergic neurons.

6. :

The method of claim 4, wherein the neuronal loss is a neuronal loss in the substantia nigra resulting in a lack of dopamine.

7. :

The method according to claim 1, wherein the Parkinson'"'"'s disease is associated with cognitive impairment.

8. :

The method according to claim 1, wherein the Parkinson'"'"'s disease is an early-stage Parkinson'"'"'s disease.

9. :

The method according to claim 1, wherein the composition elicits a disease-modifying response.

10. :

The method according to claim 1, wherein the progression of the Parkinson'"'"'s disease is slowed down.
