Abstract

Methods, apparatus, systems and articles of manufacture are disclosed for determining a probability of presence for a user of a first device at a second media presentation with a second device. The probability of presence is determined by accessing a demographic impression from a database proprietor for the first device for a first media presentation, where the first device is registered with the database proprietor. Accessing a non-demographic impression from a second device, not registered with the database proprietor, for the second media presentation, where the non-demographic impression has one shared data item with the demographic impression. And determining the probability of presence for the user of the first device to be exposed to the non-demographic impression from the second device, based on the demographic impression, the non-demographic impression and the shared data item.

Claims

1. A method for determining a probability of presence, comprising:

accessing a demographic impression from a database proprietor for a first device, for a first media presentation, where the first device is registered with the database proprietor;

accessing a non-demographic impression from a second device, for a second media presentation, wherein the non-demographic impression has a shared data item with the demographic impression and wherein the second device is not registered with the database proprietor;

determining a probability of presence for a user of the first device to be exposed to the non-demographic impression from the second device, based on the demographic impression, the non-demographic impression and the shared data item.

2. The method of claim 1, further including:

determining if the first device and the second device are in a same household;

when the first device and the second device are not in the same household, the probability of presence for the user of the first device to be exposed to the non-demographic impression from the second device is set to a very low probability.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the determining of the probability of presence for the user of the first device further includes:

comparing impression information of the non-demographic impression with impression information and demographic information from the demographic impression.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the comparing of the impression information of the non-demographic impression with the impression information and the demographic information from the demographic impression, further includes:

comparing timestamps of the non-demographic impression with timestamps and demographic information from the demographic impression.

5. The method of claim 3, wherein the comparing of the impression information of the non-demographic impression with the impression information and the demographic information from the demographic impression, further includes:

comparing media content of the non-demographic impression with media content and demographic information from the demographic impression.

6. The method of claim 1, further including:

determining a probability of presence for a member of a household, different than the user of the first device, to be exposed to the non-demographic impression from the second device, based on the demographic impression, the non-demographic impression and the shared data item, where the user of the first device is a member of the household.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein multiple demographic impressions, each having one shared data item with the non-demographic impression, are used to determine the probability of presence for the user of the first device.

8. The method of claim 1, further including:

assigning the user of the first device as an audience member for the non-demographic impression.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the database proprietor is one of the following types of database proprietors:

a social network site, a multi-service site, online retailer site, a credit reporting site, or a streaming media site.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein user of the first device is not a panelist.

11. An apparatus, comprising:

a probability of presence determiner structured to access a demographic impression from a database proprietor for a first device, registered with the database proprietor, for a first media presentation, access a non-demographic impression from a second device, not registered with the database proprietor, for a second media presentation, where the non-demographic impression has one shared data item with the demographic impression;

the probability of presence determiner structured to determine a probability of presence for a user of the first device to be exposed to the non-demographic impression from the second device, based on the demographic impression, the non-demographic impression and the shared data item.

12. The apparatus of claim 11, further including:

a household determiner structured to determine if the first device and the second device are in the same household;

a time matcher structured to compare timestamps of the non-demographic impression with timestamps and demographic information from the demographic impression;

a content matcher structured to compare media content of the non-demographic impression with media content and demographic information from the demographic impression; and

a probability assigner structured to determine the probability of presence for the user of the first device to be exposed to the non-demographic impression from the second device, based on if the first device and the second device are in the same household and based on the comparisons made by the time matcher and the content matcher.

The apparatus of claim 12, where the probability assigner determines a probability of presence for a member of a household, different than the user of the first device, to be exposed to the non-demographic impression from the second device, based on the demographic impression, the non-demographic impression and the shared data item, where the user of the first device is a member of the household.

14. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein a plurality of demographic impressions, each having one shared data item with the non-demographic impression, are used to determine the probability of presence for the user of the first device.

15. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein a first one of the plurality of demographic impressions is from a first database proprietor and a second one of the plurality of demographic impressions is from a second database proprietor, different from the first database proprietor.

16. The apparatus of claim 12, where the probability assigner assigns the user of the first device as an audience member for the non-demographic impression.

17. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the database proprietor is one of the following types of database proprietors:

a social network site, a multi-service site, online retailer site, a credit reporting site, or a streaming media site.

18. The apparatus of claim 11, where both the first device and the second device are Internet-connected devices.

19. A tangible computer readable medium comprising computer readable instructions which, when executed, cause a processor to at least:

access a demographic impression from a database proprietor for a first device, registered with the database proprietor, for a first media presentation;

access a non-demographic impression from a second device, not registered with the database proprietor, for a second media presentation, where the non-demographic impression has one shared data item with the demographic impression;

determine a probability of presence for a user of the first device to be exposed to the non-demographic impression from the second device, based on the demographic impression, the non-demographic impression and the shared data item.

29. The storage medium as defined in claim 19, further including:

determine if the first device and the second device are in a same household;

when the first device and the second device are not in the same household, the probability of presence for the user of the first device at the second media presentation is set to a very low probability.

21. The storage medium as defined in claim 19, wherein the determining of the probability of presence for the user of the first device further includes:

comparing impression information of the non-demographic impression with impression information and demographic information from the demographic impression.

22. The storage medium as defined in claim 19, wherein the comparing of the impression information of the non-demographic impression with the impression information and the demographic information from the demographic impression, further includes:

comparing timestamps of the non-demographic impression with timestamps and demographic information from the demographic impression.

23. The storage medium as defined in claim 19, wherein the comparing of the impression information of the non-demographic impression with the impression information and the demographic information from the demographic impression, further includes:

comparing media content of the non-demographic impression with media content and demographic information from the demographic impression.

24. The storage medium as defined in claim 19, further including:

determining a probability of presence for a member of a household, different than the user of the first device, at the second media presentation, based on the demographic impression, the non-demographic impression and the shared data item, where the user of the first device is a member of the household.

25. The storage medium as defined in claim 19, wherein multiple demographic impressions, each having one shared data item with the non-demographic impression, are used to determine the probability of presence for the user of the first device.

26. The storage medium as defined in claim 19, further including:

assigning the user of the first device as an audience member for the non-demographic impression.

27. The storage medium as defined in claim 19, wherein the database proprietor is one of the following types of database proprietors:

a social network site, a multi-service site, online retailer site, a credit reporting site, or a streaming media site.
